Discover Štiavnik: Hotels, hiking and culture
Accommodation in Štiavnik
Štiavnik combines its location in the Javorníky Mountains with named hiking destinations, cycling routes and regional cultural connections. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay here, it helps to decide in advance what you want to focus on during your trip: Would you like to hike to a mountain or a recreation centre, plan a bike ride, or learn about local and regional history?
Location in the Javorníky Mountains
Štiavnik lies in the valley of the stream of the same name. The Štiavnik Valley stretches from the Váh Valley to the foot of Veľký Javorník. Štiavnik is also one of the municipalities in the Javorníky part of the Kysuce Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Kysuce). The village can therefore be considered both in terms of its location in a specifically named valley and its place within the surrounding landscape.
Hiking destinations and cycling routes
From Štiavnik, you can climb Veľký Javorník, whose summit is 1,071 m above sea level. Another destination is the Kasárne recreation centre: From Štiavnik, you can get there either via Kykula or via the Butorky saddle at an elevation of 982 m. The destinations are therefore clearly distinct: Veľký Javorník is all about climbing the named mountain, while Kasárne can be reached by either of the two routes mentioned. The elevations help distinguish these reference points: 1,071 m refers to Veľký Javorník, while 982 m refers to the Butorky saddle.
Several cycling routes pass through Tancová and Ráztoka in the direction of Petrovická dolina. This gives you specific places and a named direction to choose from for a bike ride, in addition to hikes on foot. If you organise your days by activity, you can consider the cycling routes as a separate focus alongside the mountain destinations.
Cultural connections in Štiavnik
The village’s cultural heritage includes numerous old songs, folk music and dances that have been passed down in Štiavnik. The municipality is also connected with the regional tradition of wire craft: Štiavnik is one of the municipalities in the area around Bytča that share this connection. Wire craft can therefore be considered a regional theme. Woodworking is also part of the local history of work; archaic forms survived in Štiavnik until the recent past. Alongside music and dance, this provides a connection to the region’s craft history.
In the centre of Štiavnik stands the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, a Baroque-Classical church dating from 1771. Its central location places it within the village, while its architectural style and construction date provide a specific historical reference. If you would like to include local history in your trip as well as the surrounding landscape, this building combines a clear location with a precisely dated history.
