Kotešová: Cultural Heritage and Cycling Route
Accommodation in Kotešová
Kotešová offers several reasons to visit: the architectural history of its church and manor house (kúria), the wire-binding tradition of Drotárstvo in the Bytča area, and a section of the Vážska Cycling Route. This makes it possible to explore the town through both its cultural heritage and a specific cycling route.
Church and Manor House: Local Architectural History
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Kotešová was built on older foundations at the end of the 16th century. In 1641, J. Nicolini, master builder to the Hrabovský family, added the tower. The church’s architectural history can therefore be divided into two stages: its construction on older foundations and the later addition of the tower.
The church, situated on a hill, offers views across the Váh Valley towards the table mountain with Hričov Castle and the rocks of Súľov. In clear weather, the view across the Váh Valley stretches particularly far.
Kotešová Manor House (Kúria) also has a long architectural history: it was built at the end of the 15th century and renovated at the end of the 16th century. The late Gothic building has been uniquely preserved. The manor house was built at the end of the 15th century and renovated at the end of the 16th century; the church was built at the end of the 16th century on older foundations and received its tower in 1641. The manor house’s early construction phases therefore date back further than the church’s construction.
The cultural connection extends beyond individual buildings to the Bytča area. Kotešová is one of the municipalities on the right bank of the Váh associated with the Drotárstvo wire-binding tradition. This adds a regional craft tradition to the history of the area, without limiting it to the church or manor house alone.

Cycling Towards Svederník
The Vážska Cycling Route follows a local road along the canal to Kotešová. In Kotešová, it continues onto a newly built cycle path towards Svederník.
Two different interests therefore complement each other: the church, manor house and regional wire-binding tradition offer cultural and historical points of interest, while the route provides cyclists with a clear direction towards Svederník. Check the route information before setting off.
