Veľké Teriakovce offers several specific starting points for planning your trip: the Neoclassical Vodný mlyn mill, an evangelical church with a distinctive architectural history, and hiking trails towards Maginhrad. There are two practical things to bear in mind in advance. To visit the mill, you must book an appointment at least 24 hours beforehand; before setting out, check the stated hiking figures against the current trail signs. This lets you consider culture and hiking as separate focuses for your trip and look for a hotel based on the purpose of your stay.

Evangelical church: architecture and building history

The evangelical church in Veľké Teriakovce is a single-nave Toleration church in the Baroque-Classical style; its presbytery has a segmented end. The tower at the front dates from 1790. The church was renovated in the mid-19th century and restored in 1925. It is important to note what the dates refer to: 1790 dates the tower, while the later dates relate to the renovation and restoration of the church. “Single-nave” describes a church interior with one nave; the presbytery is the choir area. These terms describe the layout and building section, while the renovation and restoration dates add to the later building history.

Vodný mlyn: mill building and machinery

The Neoclassical Vodný mlyn is a mill building dating from 1800. Part of the technical equipment used for milling flour has been preserved. The mill therefore brings together its architectural history and former function: alongside the Neoclassical building, part of the machinery used for milling has also been preserved. To visit, you must book an appointment at least 24 hours in advance. Allow for this lead time if you want to make a visit to the mill a fixed part of your trip.

Hiking towards Maginhrad

The hiking route from Veľké Teriakovce to Maginhrad is listed as 3 km long, with a walking time of one hour. It also includes 205 m of ascent and 10 m of descent. These figures answer different planning questions: the distance indicates the route’s length, the time provides a guide, and the elevation change shows the stated ascent. Before setting out, check the route figures against current trail signs.

Mitrovanie and shepherding tradition

Mitrovanie, also known as valaské hody or sviatok ovčiarov, is an old custom marking the end of the shepherding season. On 18 October 2025, the event was held for the twelfth time at Salaš pod Maginhradom in Veľké Teriakovce. The programme for this edition included demonstrations of sheep shearing, the preparation of Žinčica, the making of cheese, Parenica and Bryndza, and the processing of sheep’s wool. The programme thus covered everything from working with animals to processing dairy products and wool. Dates and programmes may vary between editions; if you plan to attend an edition, check both details for the latest information.
