Churches and Monastery History

The Biserica Sf. Arhangheli Mihail şi Gavriil in Bucşoaia was rebuilt at its present location following a donation from the parishioners of Capu Satului in Câmpulung. When it was reconsecrated, the church was also given the patronage of “Duminica Tuturor Sfinţilor”. The rebuilding and the additional dedication are therefore two distinct aspects of its history.

The history of Mănăstirea Schimbarea la Faţă Monastery includes a donation and the consecration of its main church. In 1997, Rusu Gavril, Rusu Vasile, Rusu Victor, Gemănaru Gheorghe, Bălan Constantin and other donors gave a meadow and forest to the present-day monastery and a chapel. A year later, in 1998, IPS Pimen, Archbishop of Suceava and Rădăuți, consecrated the main church. The two dates therefore mark different milestones: the donation was for the monastery and chapel, while the consecration was for the main church.

The church in Doroteia adds an earlier construction period to these stories. Its construction began in 1872 and continued until 1875. The church-related themes thus span a 19th-century building through to the monastery dates of 1997 and 1998.

Hora Bucovinei and Bukovinian Traditions

Hora Bucovinei focuses on traditions and customs associated with tourist sheepfolds in Bukovina. The 2016 edition took place at Tabăra Bucşoaia in Frasin. The event also offers opportunities to sample traditional Bukovinian products; the specific offerings may vary from one edition to another. Geology at Dealul Frasin and Caves

A fossil site lies at Dealul Frasin in the town of Frasin. Fossils found there include nummulites, lamellibranchs and other fossils from the Eocene, the second epoch of the Paleogene. Two geological points of interest come together here: specific fossil groups and their geological age.

Avenul de la Frasin is considered a national record for depth and length among caves in sandstone. The focus here is therefore on two comparative features, depth and length, in relation to the sandstone rock. This distinguishes it from the fossil site at Dealul Frasin, where the fossils and their classification in the Eocene provide the geological focus.

One of the routes described as easier for reaching Avenele de la Frasin starts in the village of Bucşoaia, before reaching Frasin from the direction of Gura Humorului on the E 58. Check the current condition of the route before setting out.
