For your trip planning, Tuzla offers several distinct points of interest: a natural beach, a marine protected area, and historic buildings. If you’re looking for a hotel in Tuzla, you can first consider whether you’re especially interested in the coast, the natural environment, or the town’s history.

Coast and Seascape

Tuzla’s beach is considered almost untouched and natural. Seasonal facilities may change. If they’re important to your plans, check their current status in advance.

The 1,738-hectare marine protected area ROSCI 0273 Zona marină de la Capul Tuzla borders the administrative unit of Tuzla (UAT Tuzla) along its southern shoreline. Within the protected area, the rocky reef seabed has its greatest offshore extent in the Romanian Black Sea sector and also has the most varied and rugged relief. Here, relief refers to the shape and contours of the seabed.

These are two different features to consider when choosing what interests you: the beach is notable for its natural character, while the marine protected area is distinguished by its size and the special characteristics of its seabed. Those interested in coastal landscapes can thus distinguish between the character of the beach and the underwater relief.

Lighthouse and Archaeological Site

Tuzla Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse on the Romanian coast. The Tuzla–Far/Stratonis archaeological site lies on the seashore, 50–150 meters south of the lighthouse and about two kilometers east of the village of Tuzla. These are two different reference points: the shorter distance refers to the lighthouse, while the approximate two-kilometer distance refers to the village. When locating the site, keep this distinction in mind; the figures do not describe the same distance. Together, the lighthouse and archaeological site provide two historical points of interest for travelers interested both in a coastal structure and in the area’s archaeological history.

Building History and Local Activity

The minaret of Tuzla Mosque dates from 1926. The Church of Sfânta Ecaterina was endowed in 1884 by Mihail Kogălniceanu and his brother Vasile. The dates refer to different things: 1926 dates the minaret, while 1884 is the year the church was endowed. When comparing the building history, consider the church’s endowment and the minaret’s date separately.

Amateur fishing is also still practiced in Tuzla. For travelers interested in local activities, it adds a contemporary practice to the picture of nature and historic buildings.

Tuzla on the “Black Sea Route”

For further trip planning, the “Black Sea Route” stage in the 2025 route plan runs from Constanța to Costinești via Techirghiol and Tuzla. This makes Tuzla part of this named stage. If you plan to use the route, check the route conditions before setting off.
