Constanța offers several distinct themes to consider when planning a trip: Art Nouveau and architectural history, maritime collections, aquatic flora and fauna, and the wildlife of Dobruja. When looking for a hotel, you can first consider which of these aspects you would like to shape your stay. The Cazinoul represents architecture and a historic social role; the aquarium, dolphinarium and Microrezervație offer different points of interest. There is also the option of boarding a boat at Portul Turistic Tomis for a trip on the Black Sea.

Art Nouveau, architectural history and collections

Cazinoul Constanța is an Art Nouveau building on the city's pedestrian promenade and was inaugurated in 1910. Its terrace was once a meeting place for sailors from around the world, tourists and the social elite of the time. The building thus brings together a particular style, a historical period and a glimpse into social life in the past.

Another architectural highlight is the Carol I Mosque, considered Romania's first building to incorporate reinforced concrete elements. This complements the Cazinoul's Art Nouveau style with a different construction method and draws attention to the material. Muzeul Marinei offers another way to explore history: it contains 37,800 exhibits in 33 collections. As a maritime collection, it offers a distinct perspective: the total number of exhibits sits alongside their organization into collections.

Aquatic wildlife and the nature of Dobruja

Acvariul Constanța is located by the sea, directly opposite Cazinoul Constanța. It presents a permanent exhibition of aquatic flora and fauna. Over the years, the aquarium has assembled more than 100 species of fish and marine animals from different geographic regions. This brings together an exhibition focused on aquatic life and a collection with diverse geographic origins—a distinct focus alongside the architecture of the Cazinoul opposite.

Delfinariul Constanţa began operating on June 1, 1972, and at the time was the first museum institution of its kind in Romania and Southeastern Europe. It also housed all three dolphin subspecies that live in the Black Sea. The date and its status as the first of its kind provide historical context, while the dolphins connect it to the fauna of the Black Sea. Compared with the aquarium, it brings the history of an institution to the fore alongside the marine theme.

Microrezervație și Păsări Exotice was created to give visitors as comprehensive a picture as possible of the nature of Dobruja. Its animals include waterbirds such as pelicans, swans, wild ducks and wild geese; land birds such as peacocks and pheasants; and mammals such as mouflons, fallow deer and roe deer. These different animal groups give the Dobruja theme greater breadth than the Acvariul's exhibition, which focuses on aquatic flora and fauna.

Maritime perspectives and choosing a hotel

At Portul Turistic Tomis, visitors can board a boat for a trip on the Black Sea. If you plan to do this, check the specific trip options before your visit. When looking for a hotel in Constanţa, this can help you distinguish between different travel interests: architectural history, collections and wildlife each offer their own thematic focus, while the boat trip adds an activity on the sea.
