When looking for a hotel in Lumina, you can choose a location based on your interests: flat terrain, churches from different building periods, or Parc Central Comuna Lumina. Geographically, the Valea Cogealiei and Valea Neagră valleys, as well as the Poarta Albă–Midia Canal, stand out. The following sections show how these features differ.

Landscape and Waterways

Lumina lies on flat terrain on both sides of the Valea Cogealiei valley. Its catchment area covers about 1,900 hectares; the maximum slope is 3 percent. These two figures describe different aspects: the area figure refers to the catchment, while the percentage refers to the maximum slope. Together, they give an indication of the extent and relief of this valley. It drains into the Poarta Albă–Midia Canal, which borders Lumina.

While the Valea Cogealiei valley drains into the canal, Valea Neagră runs through Lumina from northwest to south and carries water year-round. Patches of remaining natural vegetation grow along this valley and in the Cogealia marsh. Thus, two different watercourses and scattered areas of vegetation coexist: a valley that drains into the canal and a valley running through the town that carries water year-round.

Churches and Local History

The first church in Lumina was built in 1907 and belonged to the Protestant denomination. In 1940, it was taken over by the German population, who had left the country as part of the population exchange; it was consecrated in 1941. There are 34 years between its construction and consecration. The takeover took place in 1940, the year before its consecration.

The Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul was built from 1999 to 2009 and consecrated on June 14, 2009. This places it in a much later construction period than the first church. Its floor plan is cross-shaped, with an octagonal tower above the naos. The church has three towers in total. The solid oak entrance doors were carved in Maramureș. The construction period, floor plan, towers, and doors offer different clues to the history and architecture of this church building.

Community Days and a Cycling Tour

“Zilele Comunei Lumina” is a traditional community event. The program for May 9, 2026, scheduled the cycling tour “Turul pe două roți” for 11:00 a.m. on the route Primărie – Strada Morii – Strada Mare. The date, time, and route place this activity within a specific edition of the Community Days.

Parc Central Comuna Lumina

Parc Central Comuna Lumina is a modern park built by the local administration. It covers 3,400 square meters and was completed in April 2016. As a municipal project, it complements the religious building history of the two churches with a different aspect of local development. The known area and completion date place the park in its spatial and temporal context.
