Archaeological Sites and Their Dating

Movila Lungă is dated to the Migration Period, in the 3rd to 4th century. The site is oval-shaped, measures about 80 metres from east to west, is around 50 metres wide and up to 2 metres high. Movila Orzăneasca is about 3 metres high and has a diameter of approximately 60 to 65 metres. The measurements use different reference points: for Movila Lungă, the east–west extent and width are given; for Movila Orzăneasca, the height and diameter are specified. This makes it possible to compare the figures without treating different measurements as equivalent.

The Aşezarea Latene archaeological site lies on a high terrace at the northeastern edge of the village of Valea Râmnicului. A ravine divides the terrain into two parts; the western section forms a promontory surrounded by steep slopes on three sides. It may date to the 4th or 3rd century BC, or to an even earlier period. Its location, terrain and tentative dating offer different points of reference for understanding the site.

The La est de sat site lies between the villages of Valea Râmnicului and Rubla, on the terrace of the Râmnicu Sărat River. It contains material from the Early Iron Age and the 1st millennium AD, including finds from the Carpic, Sântana de Mureş and Dridu cultures. The Cimitir archaeological site is located on the high terrace of the Râmnicu Sărat River. For La est de sat, the location, terrace and several periods and cultures are key points of interest; for Cimitir, its position on the high terrace is the main point of reference.

Churches, Monument and Building History

The Church of Sfântul Mare Mucenic Dimitrie in the village of Oreavu was built between 1907 and 1910. Renovation work was carried out at the church between 2021 and 2023. Conservation and restoration of the interior wall paintings using oil techniques was planned for 2017. The original construction and later renovation work are distinct phases; the restoration plan for the paintings remains a proposal. Catedrala Izvorul Tămăduirii is located in the village of Rubla. In Valea Râmnicului, the monument to the heroes of the First World War stands in front of the school.

Archaeological dating and more recent building history are separated by considerable spans of time: Aşezarea Latene may date to the 4th or 3rd century BC, or an earlier period; La est de sat contains material from the Early Iron Age and the 1st millennium AD. By contrast, the church in Oreavu was built between 1907 and 1910. This comparison helps distinguish possible archaeological dates from a clearly specified construction period.
