Reipå offers a variety of reasons to stay: the coast and walks at Hornneset, a summit hike to Tuven, trails near Grimstadskardet and insights into the history of the school and life on the coast. There is also a cycling route and a managed watercourse system. You can shape your plans around whether you would rather spend time outdoors or learn about the region’s history.

Coastal Trails and Viewpoints

West of the centre of Reipå, Hornneset lies by the open sea. Here, sandy beaches alternate with smooth rock coastline. Two easy routes for a walk start at the car park at the western end of Foreveien. One takes about half an hour and is suitable for hikers of all ages. The combination of beach and rocky coast makes Hornneset a coastal destination in its own right, while the routes offer a practical way to explore on foot.

The easy round trip to the summit of Tuven is about 1.2 kilometres long, takes around an hour and has a total elevation gain of 45 metres. From the highest point, you can look out over all of Reipå and Dalen; in good weather, the Lofoten Wall is also visible. The time needed can be factored into your day alongside the half-hour walk at Hornneset. If current conditions matter for your hike, check the trail beforehand.

At Grimstadskardet, a trail across easy terrain leads to a viewpoint overlooking Grimstad and Mevik. From there, it continues as a path to Grimstad.

School History and Life on the Coast

The Meløy local heritage museum is in Reipå, beside the main road, and consists of two school buildings dating from 1870 and 1923. In an authentic school building from 1923, visitors can explore historic classrooms and learn about rural school and boarding-school life. The museum thus connects the history of schooling with a specific historic building.

An exhibition in the basement focuses on the way of life of fishing farmers. It shows how fishing and farming worked together and shaped life on the coast over several centuries. The museum’s themes complement each other: upstairs are the classrooms and everyday life at school and boarding school; in the basement, the connection between livelihoods and coastal life.

Cycling, Fishing and More Places to Visit

The Fjordruta cycling route from Ørnes to Inndyr passes through Reipå. If you plan to ride this route, check current trail conditions before setting out. The watercourse system is managed and maintained for use by Reipåvassdragets Fiskelag. It includes Reipåga, Markvatnet, Søråga and Svartvatnet. If fishing is part of your travel plans, check the applicable fishing seasons, permits and rules in advance, as these may change.

The shelter by Reipåelva is below the cemetery. You can reach it by descending along the western side of the cemetery fence in the direction of Fore; the shelter is easily accessible for strollers and wheelchair users. Dalen also has a toboggan run with a barbecue hut. These places add different ways to spend time outdoors alongside the hiking trails, without implying a particular route between them.

For planning your time, you can compare the roughly half-hour walk at Hornneset directly with the approximately one-hour round trip to Tuven. Tuven involves 45 metres of elevation gain; at Hornneset, the focus is on the sandy beaches and smooth rock coastline. This lets you choose between a shorter seaside walk and a summit hike.
