Ågskardet: Hiking at Ågvatnet and Råkk Huset
Accommodation in Ågskardet
If you’re looking for a hotel in Ågskardet, you can plan around hiking destinations, Råkk Huset and the ferry connection to Forøy. At Ågvatnet, a shelter with a fire pit is a central feature; at Teppfjellet, a marked trail leads to the summit. These different highlights can help you match your accommodation search to your plans for each day.
Shelter and access at Ågvatnet
On the west shore of Ågvatnet, there is a shelter with a fire pit. The route starts at a car park at the northern end of the lake. From there, the path follows a forest road for about 600 metres, then continues for around 50 metres along the water. The route is considered easy, including for pushchairs. Trail and car park conditions may change, so check them before your visit.
From the shelter, you can continue along the forest road towards Åg-Kilskardet. The municipality of Meløy’s Fjelltrimmen nærtur programme lists Ågvatnet and Arhaugen as hiking destinations for Ågskardet. Teppfjellet is listed as a summit hiking destination in Fjelltrimmen topptur. The hike follows a marked trail to the summit and offers views over Ågskardet and the surrounding area.
This gives you a choice of different types of destinations: a lake with a shelter and a described approach, a summit trail with views, and Arhaugen as another hiking destination. Ågvatnet was also included in the summer 2026 Barnetrimmen programme. If you’re planning for a later season, check whether it is included, as this reference applies to 2026.
Råkk Huset and Råkk Café
Near the ferry terminal in Ågskardet is Råkk Huset, a 1950s-style diner. Råkk Huset also includes the wool shop Ullkurven, a radio museum, and a combined second-hand and music shop. Råkk Café offers two culinary styles: dishes you’d expect from an American diner and traditional Norwegian cuisine. Homemade cakes are also part of its culinary offering.
Ferry connection to Forøy
From Ågskardet, a ferry crosses the fjord north to Forøy. If you’re including the crossing in your travel plans, check the timetable beforehand. This will help you factor the connection into your plans without assuming a specific departure time.
