Enebakk combines a varied forest landscape with bodies of water, historic sites and public swimming spots. To start planning your trip, you can choose a focus: excursions and nature, churches and local history, or time by the water. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, this overview can help you plan your trip around the experiences that matter to you.

Forests, trails and the history of the Flyktningeruta

Østmarka is a varied forest landscape with bodies of water, marshes, ravines and ridges. In Østmarka National Park, you can take short or long excursions on foot or by bicycle, as well as go on trips on skis or by canoe. This gives you different ways to experience the natural environment.

The Flyktningeruta offers a special historical perspective. This hiking trail passes through Enebakk and Eidskog and continues to Sweden. Along the route are cultural heritage sites such as cabins, shelters, farmsteads and other buildings. During the Second World War, they were used as hiding places and as shelters and overnight stops for refugees and couriers. The route therefore combines a hike with the history of how it was used at the time. Conditions may vary; take this into account when planning your trip.

Churches and traces of local history

Enebakk Church is an automatically protected medieval stone church dating from the 12th century; its construction is estimated to have taken place around the year 1200. Mari Church was consecrated in 1761 and built on Tangenhaugen below Vestby farm. As a wooden church, it offers views of Mjær and large parts of Ytre Enebakk. The two churches offer different features: medieval stone architecture at Enebakk Church and a wooden church with a view at Mari Church.

Flateby Bruk is also a place with traces of history. The site lies by Øyeren and contains ruins of old industrial facilities. Alongside churches, remnants of industrial history are therefore another possible focus for a stay.

Public swimming spots by the water

There are three public swimming spots in Enebakk: Bermerud, Flateby Bruk and Vikstranda. Bermerud lies at the northern end of Lyseren and has a sandy beach for children as well as an accessible ramp. Seasonal conditions may vary and the condition of the facilities may change, so check swimming conditions and the ramp before your visit.

Vikstranda has a sandy cove for children and a swimming platform. The swimming spot is only a short distance from the bus station or bus stop in Vik. Seasonal conditions may vary here too; if travelling by bus, check current transport options. Bermerud and Vikstranda therefore differ in the facilities described, while Flateby Bruk also has a distinct historical connection to Øyeren through its ruins of old industrial facilities.

Tenants of an arena or accommodation have access to around two kilometres of paths and hiking trails; the nine-basket disc golf course is also reserved for this group. The facilities include canoes for two to three people per boat, with life jackets included. Access is restricted to people renting an arena or accommodation; arrange use of the canoe facilities in advance.
