Hurdal: Lakes, Fjellsjøkampen and SkiHurdal
Accommodation in Hurdal
Explore Hurdal through its waters, high points and culture. At Fjellsjøkampen, marked trails with different route profiles lead to the summit; SkiHurdal adds to the winter activities. Hurdal Verk and Hurdal Church tell the story of the area’s history. When planning your trip, you can choose a focus—from activities on the water to winter sports and cultural heritage.
Lakes and a beach at Hurdalsjøen
Hurdal has more than 40 lakes and bodies of water where you can swim, fish and paddle. The range of activities offers different ways to spend time by or on the water.
Åsand, with its gently sloping sandy beach, is located on Hurdalsjøen. The spacious recreation area has picnic facilities, accessible toilets and a large car park. For your visit to the water, you can choose from various water activities or head to this named beach and its recreation area.
Fjellsjøkampen: elevation and two routes
Fjellsjøkampen reaches 812 metres and is the highest point in the former Akershus. Its summit lies within the Fjellsjøkampen Nature Reserve. Two marked routes lead to the top: a steeper 2.3-kilometre trail and a gentler 5.7-kilometre trail. The shorter route is steeper, while the longer one is gentler—you can consider both distance and route profile when choosing.
Winter sports on slopes and trails
SkiHurdal offers family slopes, a race course, a black run, ski cross and a small terrain park. There are also 11 downhill runs served by 3 lifts, dedicated children’s slopes and a toboggan run. Ski offerings are seasonal and may change over time; check what is available for your planned dates before visiting.
The cross-country trail network also offers a range of options. Minneåsen and Skrukkelia are particularly well known for good skiing. The local network includes lit trails as well as routes groomed for both skating and classic skiing. You can choose between downhill and cross-country skiing, and, for cross-country, between the two named techniques.
Glassmaking history and cultural landscape
According to a product list from 1783, the historic Hurdal glassworks produced at least 30 drinking-glass models by Nøstetangen. Hurdal Church was completed in 1681 and stands at the end of Hurdalsjøen, in a cultural landscape with several burial sites from the Iron Age. Its protection status is “Automatically listed (1650–1850).”
The church also preserves a baptismal font dating from 1150 to 1200, which comes from the earlier church. Eighteenth-century glassmaking, church history and the Iron Age burial sites offer different insights into Hurdal’s past.
Cycle around Hurdalsjøen
The Hurdalsjøen rundt cycling route is about 54 kilometres long. It starts at Hurdalsjøen Hotell and goes around Hurdal’s largest body of water. So, alongside the marked trails up Fjellsjøkampen, a ride around the lake is another option to consider when planning your trip.
