Ytre Enebakk offers several specific points of interest for a stay: Mari Church and its views, traces of former farms and workplaces, and the swimming spot at Vikstranda. When looking for hotels in Ytre Enebakk, these differences can help you choose whether to focus on local history or the swimming spot. The historic sites offer different insights into church architecture, routes and former uses.

Mari Church and Old Roads

Mari Church was inaugurated in 1761 and built on Tangenhaugen, below the Vestby farm. Its elevated location offers views of Lake Mjær and large parts of Ytre Enebakk. Here, a precisely identified building site, a historical date and a wide view come together. If you are interested in the connection between architectural history and landscape, the church is a distinctive landmark.

The old Byvegen runs through the entire settlement of Ytre Enebakk. One of its best-preserved sections lies between Kvernstua and the Durud farm. This makes it possible to distinguish the road’s route through the settlement from this particularly well-preserved, clearly defined section.

At the sawmill ruins by the Tangenelva, four stone pillars remain by the river, and clear traces of the old sawmill are also visible. The pillars may date from around 1600, but their exact age is not known with certainty. Here, you can see the remains of a former facility, with a date that should be treated with caution.

Traces of Former Farms

The former croft of Norli was inhabited until around 1875. It is in the Gjevelsrud forest, just a few hundred metres from the Våglia residential area. Only some of the stones from the former buildings remain. Nyland is on the old Byvegen at the edge of the forest, northeast of the Omberg farm; today, only the remains of its outbuildings can be seen there. The two farmsteads thus differ both in location and in the remains visible today.

The dates also point to different things: 1761 is the year Mari Church was inaugurated; the stone pillars at the sawmill ruins may date from around 1600, though their exact age remains uncertain. For Norli, around 1875 marks the end of habitation. This distinguishes the church’s exact date, an uncertain dating and an approximate period of use.

The original Viksaga was demolished in 1950 and stood approximately where the swimming spot by Våg is today. This approximate location links the former use of the site with a present-day point of reference at the swimming spot.

Vikstranda by the Water

The Vikstranda swimming spot is at the northern end of Våg, near the Våglia residential area and County Road 155. It has a swimming platform, a car park and a toilet that is also suitable for people with disabilities. This makes Vikstranda a different kind of place to visit from sites focused mainly on church architecture, old roads or traces of former farms.

In the wider Enebakk destination, the Vikstranda bathing area also has a sandy cove for children. Seasonal conditions may vary.
