Discover Ignalina
Accommodation in Ignalina
Ignalina brings together a range of themes for a trip: cross-country skiing at the Lithuanian Winter Sports Center, exhibitions on regional history, a city beach on Lake Gavys, and trails for observing nature. You can decide which side of the city will shape your stay by starting with the activities you have planned. Winter sports are a clearly defined offering; museums, art, and lakeside destinations provide other focal points.
Outdoors: cross-country skiing, the lake, and birdwatching
The Lithuanian Winter Sports Center in Ignalina offers cross-country skiing. If you plan to take part in this sport, it is a concrete starting point for choosing your travel dates. The offering is seasonal, and operating conditions vary by season. So check the conditions for your planned visit before traveling.
Ignalina’s city beach is on the shore of Lake Gavys and has a swimming area. The beach also includes the Basom kojom health trail, which is more than half a kilometer long and where visitors can walk barefoot. This means that swimming and following a walking route of your choice are two different options at the same location. Seasonal conditions at the beach and maintenance of the trail may vary; check the situation before your visit.
The Forest Park Trail area is home to 25 species of land and water birds. There is a suitable spot there for observing birds with binoculars. Information stands, recreation areas, and terraces are also part of the park’s infrastructure. Wild bird sightings may vary by season—a difference from cross-country skiing, which is explicitly a seasonal offering.
The bridge over Lake Paplovinis makes it possible to take a walk connecting the lake’s shores. So, alongside birdwatching, a direct crossing between the two sides of the shore is another distinct reason to spend time outdoors.
Discover local history and art

This brings together insights into everyday life and an exhibition about an activity that was important to life in the area.
The museum regularly hosts events, exhibitions, and educational activities. Dates may vary, so check in advance what is happening during your travel dates. This lets you plan your museum visit not only around its permanent themes but also around the current program.
Ignalina is ART'i comprises six artworks that are permanently accessible to the public. Three works were unveiled in 2020, and three more were added in 2021. If a particular work is a key reason for your visit, check its installation in advance.
