Antalgė offers several ways to experience ceramics and sculpture. At the Giedriaus Mazūro Ceramic Studio, you can work with ceramics yourself; the Giedriaus Mazūro Sculpture Park displays sculptures in Antalgė. You can find another ceramics-related attraction in the wider region: the Vytautas Valiušius Ceramics Museum is dedicated to traditional applied ceramics. This lets you choose your focus based on whether you want to take part in a hands-on activity, see sculptures, or view a collection.

Experience ceramics hands-on

At the studio, you can try pottery on the wheel, hand-building, and decorating ceramics. These activities differ in what you do: on the wheel, you shape the clay on a potter’s wheel; with hand-building, you form the piece by hand; and with decorating, the focus is on embellishing the ceramic piece. This lets you choose based on whether you are more interested in shaping or decorating. Advance arrangements may be required to take part; please check before your visit.

Another offering is the Raku firing experience. It includes making a ceramic mug by hand. Program details may vary. If you are interested in this experience, ask about the specific details in advance. Raku is offered as a distinct program, while wheel throwing, hand-building, and decorating are different ways of working.

Creative camps for children and adults are held at the studio; the program may vary. There is also a play area for young visitors. Visitor facilities may change. If you would like to include the play area in your plans, ask in advance whether it will be available on the date of your visit.

Sculptures in Antalgė

The Giedriaus Mazūro Sculpture Park is located in Antalgė. Works on display there include a sculpture of Vytautas Kernagis and one of Jonas Valančiūnas. The park focuses on individual sculptures, while the studio centers on hands-on work with ceramics. This gives you two distinct cultural experiences in Antalgė: viewing works or working with ceramics yourself.

Ceramic art in the wider region

The Vytautas Valiušius Ceramics Museum’s permanent exhibition features traditional applied-ceramics objects collected from various parts of Lithuania. The collection includes several hundred pots, vases, small vases, and candlesticks made on the wheel by Vytautas Valiušius. While the studio offers opportunities to create your own work, the museum focuses on a collection of finished ceramic objects. The pieces’ origins in different parts of Lithuania give the collection a broad geographical scope.

This distinction makes the options easy to compare when choosing a cultural focus: at the studio, you can try different techniques; in the sculpture park, you can see individual works; and at the museum, you can view a larger ceramics collection. For orientation, Antalgė is next to the Kaunas–Zarasai road.
