Dreverna offers two distinct starting points for planning your trip: water-based activities and insights into the history of boatbuilding. You can therefore consider whether you want to focus your stay mainly on boating activities or also make time for the town’s cultural history.

Harbour, Boat Trips and Ferry Service

The pier infrastructure enables tourist boat trips from Dreverna along the Minija River to the Curonian Lagoon and on to Cape Ventė, Klaipėda, Nida and Svencelė, as well as to the Baltic Sea. The destinations mentioned therefore range from places on the lagoon to the Baltic Sea.

Water bikes, stand-up paddleboards and an eight-person kayak catamaran are available to rent at the harbour. This gives you a choice of different watercraft; rental availability may vary by season. Boat and motorboat excursions are another option. They go to the Curonian Lagoon, the Nemunas Delta, as well as Juodkrantė and Nida. Routes and excursion providers may vary.

The seasonal passenger ferry connecting Dreverna with Juodkrantė in summer is a separate service. If you plan to use it, check the schedule in advance. The ferry is a specific option for trip planning, while boat excursions visit different destinations depending on the route and provider.

Boatbuilding History and Culture

The J. Gižas Ethnographic Homestead in Dreverna is Lithuania’s only surviving shipbuilder’s homestead. Its interactive exhibition explores the history of boatbuilding on the Curonian Lagoon. It complements the water-based activities with an insight into the craft traditions associated with boats and the lagoon.

The homestead also offers excursions, educational activities and cultural events for visitors of different ages. The programme may vary by season or booking. In the “Mūsų vėtrungė” activity, participants make and decorate their own weather vane from pieces of wood. If you would like to take part, bear in mind that availability may depend on booking.

Dreverna has been mentioned since the 13th century. In the 17th and 18th centuries, it was a trading centre where fish markets were held. A much later development was the small boat harbour, established in 2009. These dates reflect different chapters in the town’s history, from its early historical record and trading period to its more recent harbour infrastructure.

Fish Dishes and Planning Your Stay

The “Dreverna” restaurant serves fish dishes prepared mostly with fresh catches from local fishermen. As the menu may change, it is a good idea to check the current dishes before visiting.

When looking for a hotel in Dreverna, it may help to decide first what you want to focus on during your trip: would you mainly like to enjoy activities at the harbour and excursions on the water, or are you particularly interested in the history of boatbuilding and the homestead’s cultural programme? This distinction helps organise the town’s options without treating the different activities as interchangeable. If a seasonal ferry trip or rental is part of your plans, take the season or availability into account when planning.
