Accommodation in Namsadi
Looking for a hotel in Namsadi and want to plan your trip around specific experiences? In Stāmerienas pagasts, historic architecture, rail travel, and landscapes come together with a range of activities. You can easily distinguish between the themes when making your choice: the palace and church offer architectural and cultural history, the Gulbenes–Alūksnes bānītis offers a train ride, and the lakes and cycling routes offer outdoor activities.
Palace and architectural history
Stāmeriena Palace was built in the mid-19th century. After a fire during the 1905 Revolution, it was restored; the restoration was completed in 1908. The palace is surrounded by a 24.3-hectare English-style landscape park. This offers two distinct historical and landscape highlights: the history of the building and the design of the park.
Stāmeriena’s Ņevas-Aleksandra Orthodox Church is also part of the cultural landscape of the pagasts. It was consecrated on June 6, 1904. Stāmeriena Palace reopened to visitors on November 30, 2019. If you’re planning a visit, check the latest visitor information beforehand.
Travel by narrow-gauge railway
In Stāmerienas pagasts, the Gulbenes–Alūksnes bānītis is the only regularly operating narrow-gauge train in the Baltics. It runs daily along the 33-kilometer route between Gulbene and Alūksne and in the opposite direction, with two trips in each direction. The train stops at Stāmeriena station, where there is a historic station building.
The railway connects two places, offering a different kind of trip from a circular route. If you plan to take the train, check the timetable and departures that suit your stay before setting off.
Lakes and landscapes
There are four lakes in Stāmerienas pagasts: Ludza, Stāmerienas, Pogas, and Kalnienas (Ģērmaņu). Stāmeriena Lake covers 92 hectares and reaches a maximum depth of 18.7 meters. This gives you a sense of the area’s landscapes both through the names of the four lakes and through the measurements for one of them.
Circular route and cycling routes
The 23-kilometer circular route 164 is called “Ap Stāmerienu un Kalnamuižu.” In addition, the Bānīša Zeme visitor program includes six cycling routes along the narrow-gauge railway. Several cross the tracks and lead to train stops. This gives you a choice of different route formats: a named circular route and a program with several cycling routes along the railway. Check current route conditions before setting out.
Guided tours, horseback riding, and summer activities
At Dzelzavieši, guided tours of a multifaceted farm are available. You can see farm animals and an antiques exhibition. Horseback rides and horse treks are also offered at Dzelzavieši. Check the latest tour and riding options before your trip, as the specific arrangements may change.
In summer, three SUP boards and a rowing boat can be rented in Stāmeriena. If you plan to take advantage of one of these offers, check availability before your trip. These seasonal rental options differ from the year-round themes of architectural history, the railway, and route planning.
