Discover Litene
Accommodation in Litene
Litene can be explored through several specific themes: birdwatching, protected nature, cycling, architecture and local history. If you’re looking for a hotel in Litene, you can start by considering which of these interests you’d like to shape your stay.
Birds and protected nature
The North Vidzeme Bird Research Society offers opportunities in Litene and beyond to learn about birds, find out more about them and observe them. In Litenes pagasts, SIA “Sita Nature Park” is located within the Natura 2000 site and nature reserve “Sitas un Pededzes paliene”. More than 18 specially protected bird and insect species are found in the natural meadows of SIA “Sita Nature Park” in Litenes pagasts; observation towers have been set up for visitors. The two nature-related experiences are distinct: the society offers information about and opportunities to observe birds, while the Sita Nature Park is defined by its protected meadows, species and observation towers.
Cycling and outdoor activities
In Litenes pagasts, the Green Railway cycling route runs for 9.4 kilometres along a former railway line. The iron bridge over the Pededze is another specific point of interest for cyclists: its renewed surface and railings allow it to be crossed safely on foot or by bicycle. At the foot of the bridge, a rest area with a shelter has been set up on the banks of the Pededze. Bicycle racks have been installed at three popular spots in Litene village.
Litene also has an outdoor arena for LaserTag, which is offered there in all seasons. Advance booking is required. If you’re planning this activity, allow time to book when arranging your schedule.
The manor house and the Pededze Promenade
Litenes Manor was built in the first half of the 19th century in the Classicist style. It is surrounded by a landscape park with a distinctive lime tree avenue. An information board for visitors stands at the manor house; a QR code activates a virtual storyteller. The building’s period and style place it in an architectural context, while the park and avenue draw attention to the surrounding grounds. The information board and QR code offer different ways to learn about the architectural and landscape features.
The green promenade along the Pededze River is in Litene; the Temple of Dreams is located along it. The riverside area in Litene therefore includes both the promenade and another named place along it.
History and commemorative events
On 14 June 1941, following the Soviet occupation, about 430 Latvian army officers were arrested at the army’s summer camp in Litenes pagasts. Commemorative events are held every year on 14 June in Sitas sils and at Litene Cemetery. For planning your time, these dates differ from activities offered year-round: LaserTag is available in all seasons, while the commemorative events take place annually on a fixed date.
