Osíčko: Chapels, History and Swimming Pool
Accommodation in Osíčko
Osíčko offers several distinct points of interest to help you plan your trip: its location in the valley below Kelčský Javorník, a source branch of the Moštěnka in the center, historic chapels, a swimming pool and local sporting events. If you are looking for a hotel in Osíčko, you can first decide whether the landscape, local history, swimming or a recurring event date should be the main factor in your stay.
Landscape and Location
Osíčko lies in the valley below Kelčský Javorník. One of the source branches of the Moštěnka stream flows through the center. The valley and the watercourse are two distinct geographical points of reference: one describes the location below the mountain, while the other runs through the middle of the village. Road II/150 is another point of reference for getting around. Osíčko lies along it between Bystřice pod Hostýnem and Valašské Meziříčí. When planning your trip, you can compare this road location with your starting point.
Local History and Chapels
The first historically documented mention of Osíčko dates back to 1360 and uses the name “Nový Osek.” The date marks the earliest documented reference, not necessarily the date of the village’s founding. Another historical landmark is the Chapel of Panny Marie pomocnice, dating from the 18th century, which is a protected monument in Osíčko.
The Chapel of Navštívení Panny Marie houses an altar built in 1925, which also serves as a memorial to those who fell in the First World War. The historical references thus span from the name’s first recorded mention in the 14th century, through an 18th-century chapel, to the 1925 altar. They relate to different aspects of local history: the recorded name, a protected monument and the commemoration of those who fell in the First World War.
Swimming Pool and Local Events
The swimming pool in Osíčko measures 33 × 18 meters and is between 0.75 and 1.6 meters deep. The length and width describe the pool’s dimensions; the depth adds a separate range. Its features include a slide, a water column, a bubble bath, a massage lounger, a wide water spout and a mushroom-shaped water sprinkler. This lets you consider the pool’s dimensions separately from its individual water features.
A Christmas tournament and an Easter tournament are held every year, and both are open to the public. The Hody tradition also includes a friendly match between the men of Osíčko and Příkazy. The tournaments and the Hody match are different forms of local sporting life: public participation is expressly welcomed at the tournaments, while the friendly match is part of the Hody tradition. If you would like to attend one of the tournaments, check the specific date for the year you plan to visit.
Transport History and Trip Planning
Příkazy–Osíčko railway station is also part of the village’s history. It was built between 1886 and 1888; regular trains began running from there in 1887. Regular services therefore began during the station’s construction period. This historical development of transport complements Osíčko’s present-day geographical location on Road II/150. The landscape, chapels, swimming pool and events offer different points of reference as you decide which aspects of the village matter for your stay.
