Volevčice can be considered for travel planning through two themes: historical memorials and landscape areas with named habitats and plants. The village’s history is documented in written sources dating back to the 14th century; alongside this are individual structures and ecological features that are clearly distinct from one another. If you are choosing a destination with an interest in local history and nature, these specific features offer different points of interest. They include the memorial stone on the road to Telč as well as a biocorridor connecting two biocentres.

History and Memorials

Volevčice has been mentioned in written sources since the 14th century. One specific memorial is the stone commemorating Pavel’s tragic death in 1815. It stands on the road to Telč and is designed as a stele. A relief of the Maltese cross and a seven-line inscription mark the stone. The relief and inscription are two distinct elements: the relief depicts the motif, while the inscription adds a written accent. Its connection to Pavel and 1815 distinguishes this memorial stone from the other memorials in Volevčice.

A stone cross commemorates František Šimek of Volevčice and is associated with the year 1914. This is a different historical reference from that of the memorial stone: the stone focuses on Pavel and his tragic death, while the cross names František Šimek. The dates help distinguish the two memorials. They are separate points of reference for understanding the village’s history and should not be conflated into a single event.

The Design of the Wooden Bell Tower

Another architectural feature is the wooden bell tower in Volevčice. Its timber-framed supporting structure is shaped like an elongated truncated pyramid and has round openings. The lower, board-clad section is covered with shingles. The structure’s openings and the board-clad, shingle-roofed lower section can be distinguished from one another. Unlike the stone memorials, the tower is defined by its wooden construction and shingled finish. Volevčice thus brings together different architectural forms, though they need not have the same purpose or history.

Natural Areas and Their Connections

Leština is a nature conservation site in the cadastral area of Volevčice u Telče. Spring snowflake (Leucojum vernum) and cyperus sedge (Carex pseudocyperus) occur there. The spring snowflake is also mentioned in the description of the functional local biocentre LBC.1 Vostupač. This comprises an alder stand with spring snowflakes and ponds with well-developed shore zones. Both species occur in Leština; the alder stand at Vostupač is also home to spring snowflakes.

The local biocentre LBC.2 Polívkův rybník is also located in the cadastral area of Volevčice. It consists mainly of the shore area of the Polívkův rybník pond. Unlike LBC.1 Vostupač, whose description includes an alder stand, spring snowflakes, and ponds with well-developed shore zones, this site focuses on the shore of a named pond. The two biocentres can therefore be distinguished by their described features: Vostupač comprises several elements, while Polívkův rybník is primarily focused on its shore area.

The landscape also includes the functional floodplain-linked biocorridor LBK.3 Leština. It follows an unnamed watercourse and connects the local biocentre LBC.2 Vackovo in the cadastral area of Vanůvek with LBC.1 Vostupač. The corridor serves as a natural migration route and has few natural barriers to movement. Its role therefore differs from that of the individual biocentres: it describes an ecological connection between two named endpoints. Both this connection and the differently described biocentres are relevant to understanding the landscape.
