Hubenov: Hiking Trails, Reservoir and Local History
Accommodation in Hubenov
Hubenov combines a stream valley shaped by meadows with hiking and cycling trails and a multilayered local history. The reservoir is also one of the town’s defining features. When looking for a hotel in Hubenov, consider whether your travel plans will be shaped more by the trails, the landscape or the history.
Meadow Valley and Čeřínek Nature Park
The Jedlovský potok stream shapes a well-preserved valley whose character is defined by meadows. It offers a different perspective on Hubenov from the history of its settlements: here, the landscape itself takes centre stage. A very small western part of the municipality lies within Čeřínek Nature Park. This area is limited in extent; together with the meadow valley, it nevertheless offers two distinct landscape settings to consider when planning a stay.
Hiking Trail and Challenging Cycling Route
A yellow-marked hiking trail runs through Hubenov from Čeřínek to Ježená. The trail marking and named endpoints help you identify the route. The “Jihlavskými vrchy do přírodního parku Čeřínek” cycling route also passes through Hubenov; it is rated as challenging. The two routes therefore differ not only in how you travel: the hiking trail is described by its course and marking, while the rating is an important point of reference for the cycling route. When planning your trip, you can weigh these details according to your interest in hiking or cycling, without treating the two routes as one combined trail.
Hubenov Reservoir
Hubenov Reservoir stores water for the drinking water supply of the city of Jihlava. Construction began in 1968, and the reservoir was put into permanent operation in 1974. The facility thus combines a technical purpose with a clearly defined construction history. There is also a specific restriction to bear in mind when planning your trip: access to the immediate area around the reservoir is prohibited. Check the local signs before your visit and take this access restriction into account if you include the reservoir in your plans.
Settlement History and Memorial Site
The old settlement associated with Hubenov was probably established during German colonisation. It was mentioned as Hladov in 1366; Latin documents used the name Steindorf. The original inhabitants raised livestock on pasture. Later changes in ownership are also reflected in the recorded place names: the Hladov (Starý Hubenov) and Hubenov (Nový Hubenov) farmsteads later came into the possession of Želiv Monastery.
In 1599, Albrecht z Ratibořic sold the village of Hladov and the Hubenov farmstead to the city of Jihlava. The property remained in the hands of Jihlava’s citizens until 1848. These milestones help place the names Hladov and Hubenov within a longer local history, rather than viewing them only as present-day names. The monument to Antonín Novák offers another historical connection: it stands in the Starý Hubenov district at the Jedlov–Nový Hubenov crossroads. Hubenov thus offers both landscapes and trails, as well as specific points of interest for exploring the town’s history.
