Three specific themes stand out when choosing Třeštice as a destination: the village’s monuments, the landscape with its stream and pond, and routes for cycling and hiking. The historic buildings and the different routes provide a factual basis for assessing whether Třeštice fits your travel plans.

Village square and historic buildings

The wooden bell tower of Třeštice stands in the middle of the village square. It dates from 1863 and is listed as an immovable cultural monument in the central register of monuments. Its location in the center of the village square and its wooden construction make it a distinctive example of local architectural heritage.

A protected cross dating from 1796 stands on the village square beside the chapel. The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua was built between 1937 and 1939 and is dedicated to the saint; it was consecrated on July 2, 1939. The construction period and consecration date mark different stages in its history. Architecturally, the chapel is a historicist, single-nave religious building oriented north–south. A prismatic tower is built into its south side.

Another architectural monument on the village square is a wooden house. It stands on a high masonry plinth and is inhabited. It once housed a so-called black kitchen. The buildings therefore display different features: the bell tower’s wooden construction, the house’s masonry plinth, and the chapel’s clearly described architectural form.

A wayside shrine dating from 1858 was fully restored in 2008. On September 7, 2013, a statue of a Praga V3S, the legendary “vejtřaska,” was also unveiled in Třeštice. These two dates add details about monument conservation and a later artistic memorial in the village to its older building history.

Landscape, waterways and routes

The landscape around Třeštice includes slopes and fields, with forests on the horizon. The Třešťský potok flows along the eastern edge of Třeštice. Třeštický rybník lies south of the village on the same stream. The two waterways are located in different positions: the stream runs along the eastern edge, while the pond lies south of Třeštice.

For cyclists, cycle route 5123 between Sedlejov and Doupě passes through Třeštice. By contrast, the blue- and green-marked hiking trails run along the northern edge of the cadastral area. This distinction is useful for travel planning: the cycling route is described as passing through the village, while the hiking trails are described by their location along the edge of the area. The information about the hiking trail markings comes from a description updated in 2022; check the signs locally.

Getting there

A municipal description updated in 2022 lists bus connections from a stop directly in Třeštice toward Telč and Mrákotín. Since this information is dated, check the current timetable before traveling. This lets you plan your journey using the current service rather than relying solely on an older timetable listing.
