Kamenná and Jihlava: Landscape, Trails and Local History
Accommodation in Kamenná and Jihlava
Kamenná offers several distinct points of interest for planning a trip: landscape, hiking and cycling routes, cross-country skiing in winter, horseback riding and historic landmarks. If you choose your destination based on specific activities or cultural features, it helps to consider these themes separately. This way, you can weigh whether the routes, winter activities or local history are the deciding factor for your stay.
Landscape and Location
Kamenná lies in the Hornosázavská Upland, in the valley of the Zlatý potok. There are three small ponds in the village, while Žižkův kopec dominates the local landscape. The names describe the location on two levels: the Hornosázavská Upland refers to the wider landscape, while the valley of the Zlatý potok describes the specific topographic setting. The small castle site is also located on Žižkův kopec; the same name therefore links a landscape feature with an archaeological site.
Trails and Activities
A blue-marked hiking trail from Jihlava to Přibyslav passes through Kamenná. Cycle Route No. 4335 also runs through Kamenná and connects Dobronín with Přibyslav. Both routes therefore share Přibyslav as a destination; their other endpoints are Jihlava for the hiking trail and Dobronín for the cycle route. Comparing them by route type and endpoint gives you a concrete reference point when choosing between the two.
Cross-country skiing is available in Kamenná in winter. Two stables in Kamenná offer riding lessons; two stables also offer horseback rides. This lets you distinguish between lessons and rides when considering the horseback riding options.
Local History and Culture
The area's history spans several distinct periods. Kamenná has a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1748; a chapel dedicated to the same saint dates from 1873. Both landmarks have a shared religious association, but differ in form and date. The small castle site on Žižkův kopec has a central circular platform with a diameter of about 21 metres. This approximate measurement refers to the platform, not the entire site, and provides a specific sense of scale for the archaeological description.
Another monument was erected in the 1930s. It commemorates the victims of the First and Second World Wars, as well as the expulsion of the Germans. Religious landmarks, a small castle site and a monument relating to war and expulsion thus stand alongside one another as distinct historical points of interest.
Kamenské aleje: A Dated Edition
The 16th edition of the “Kamenské aleje” event, hosted by KČT Kamenná, began and ended on 4 July 2026 at Žižkův kopec. The start and finish of this edition were therefore on the same hill.
