Brzkov: Chapel, Routes and Landscape

Brzkov offers several distinct themes to consider when planning a trip: the history of the “Kaple sv. Jana Nepomuckého” chapel, a cycle route and a hiking trail, as well as various landscape and water areas. When planning a hotel stay in Brzkov, it may help to decide first what you want to focus on. Would you rather explore the chapel’s history, include a route, or incorporate the landscape areas into your plans? Making this distinction helps you take dates and route information into account in a way that suits your travel plans.

Chapel and Religious Heritage

The “Kaple sv. Jana Nepomuckého” chapel is a cultural and historical landmark in Brzkov. The earliest surviving documentary mention dates from 1831; the chapel was consecrated on 13 May 2012. The dates mark two different stages: a recorded written mention and the later consecration. This places the chapel’s history in context without conflating its mention with its consecration.

The story of its construction also includes the community’s own contribution: the civic association “Skalka 2009” acted as the builder. More than 4,000 hours of work went into the construction. This adds another perspective on the chapel alongside the historical dates: the organization of the project and the work contributed.

Services are held in the chapel every three weeks on Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. The schedule was updated on 6 March 2026; check the date that suits you before your visit.

Another religious object in Brzkov is a metal cross on a shaped stone pedestal. At its base is a relief of the Sorrowful Virgin. The description of the cross therefore covers both its metal and stone design and the relief.

Cycle Route and Hiking Trail

Cycle Route No. 16 passes through Brzkov on the route from Slavonice to Přibyslav. Check the current markings and conditions before setting out. Its number, its route through Brzkov and the stated endpoints provide specific reference points for understanding the route.

The green-marked hiking trail runs along the western edge of the cadastral area between Polná and Přibyslav. Both route descriptions mention Přibyslav; Slavonice is the other reference point for the cycle route, while Polná is the other reference point for the hiking trail. The routes can therefore be distinguished by mode of travel and course: the cycle route passes through Brzkov, while the hiking trail runs along its western cadastral boundary. Check the current trail markings before hiking.

Landscape and Waterways

The landscape features relate to different areas. The Mastník pond lies south of Brzkov. The valley of the Jablonský potok in Brzkov is a habitat-rich area where specially protected species occur. This differs from the corridor along the Skrýšovský potok, which is one of the defining landscape areas in the Brzkov area.

The Vampolím area, with two of the most significant water bodies in Brzkov’s planning area, lies on the Bystřice River. Together with Mastník, the Jablonský potok valley and the corridor along the Skrýšovský potok, it gives a varied picture of the named landscape areas: a pond, a valley, a stream corridor and a riverside area. Their respective locations help you distinguish these features when planning your trip.

Planning Your Trip

The stated service schedule provides a specific time reference for the chapel. For the cycle route and hiking trail, the focus is instead on the route, mode of travel and current markings. If one of these themes is central to your stay, plan accordingly and check the date or route conditions in advance.
