There are several themes to choose from for a trip to Plandry: the Baroque pilgrimage complex, a challenging hiking route that passes through the village, and horse-riding activities. Cultural and historical attractions also include medieval silver mining, a mining water channel, and traces of ore processing. You can tailor your stay to culture, exercise, or nature; plan the conditions for visiting each separately.

Baroque pilgrimage complex

Plandry is home to a Baroque pilgrimage complex with the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk, built between 1735 and 1739. The complex has a symbolic layout in the form of the Star of St. John. At its center is a square chapel, surrounded by an enclosing wall with five niche chapels. The complex can be understood through this clear arrangement of a center and enclosing wall; for those interested in architecture, it brings together the Baroque period and an explicitly symbolic design.

The chapel is open during the pilgrimage. Organized groups can visit by making a prior telephone appointment. If the chapel is an important reason for your trip, check access in advance and plan your visit around the pilgrimage.

Traces of medieval mining

Together with the mining and smelting site, the Rantířovsko-starohorský mining water channel is significant evidence of medieval silver ore extraction and processing. In the landscape, the channel appears as a simple ditch running along the slope of the Jihlava valley. Its form makes this archaeological trace easy to see; its significance lies in its connection with silver ore mining and smelting.

A smelting site and a settlement of miners and ore processors were located in the valley of the Bělokamenský potok. A section of the streambed about 10 to 15 meters long has visible metallurgical slag, indicating waterwheel-powered smelting furnaces. In addition to the historic settlement and smelting areas, there is therefore a tangible indication of the technical processing of ore. How visible the slag is can vary depending on conditions at the site.

Hiking and nature

The 35.5-kilometer Okrouhlík–Rantířov–Hornická naučná stezka hiking route passes through Plandry. The circular route is rated very challenging and has 515 meters of elevation gain. Its length, difficulty rating, and elevation gain describe different aspects of the hike: its total distance, the stated level of challenge, and the ascent. Before setting out, check the current route description and conditions, as details may change.

The Zaječí skok Nature Reserve lies between Plandry and Rantířov and features thermophilic vegetation. This natural attraction offers a different focus from the archaeological remains or the hiking route. When visiting, observe the applicable access rules and conditions in the protected area.

Horse riding and Dýňobraní

Zámecká stáj Plandry offers English riding, riding lessons for adult beginners and advanced riders, trail rides, a riding school, and a pony school. The activities include both lessons and trail rides; two experience levels are specified for adult lessons. Check booking and availability before you arrive.

The Dýňobraní pumpkin harvest festival is traditionally held at Zámecká stáj. If you would like to combine your trip with the festival, check the event dates in advance.
