Borovná: Ponds, Wetlands and Local History
Accommodation in Borovná
Borovná lies five kilometres southwest of Telč at the foot of Zdeňkov Hill. For planning your trip, the village offers a strong connection with nature: ponds, wetlands and birdlife sit alongside a nature trail and routes linking Borovná with other places. When choosing a hotel, it may help to consider whether you want to focus your stay on wildlife watching, a cycling route or local history.
Pond Landscape and Protected Nature
One highlight is the U Borovné Natura 2000 Site of Community Importance. It covers 18.1995 hectares. Its habitats include reed beds, wet meadows, wet willow scrub and pond habitats. U Borovné protects a significant population of the fire-bellied toad in a high-quality complex of ponds and wetlands. The natural area is therefore not defined solely by open water: wet meadows and vegetated areas are also part of its character.
The pond landscape near Borovná also provides a habitat for around two dozen endangered bird species. They breed there, forage or stop to rest during migration. Examples include the osprey, kingfisher and black stork. To understand the birdlife, it is important to consider not only the species mentioned but also the different ways birds use the area: breeding, foraging and resting during migration all take place here. Nature enthusiasts can thus learn about individual bird species as well as the role of the landscape throughout the year.
Nature Trail and Routes
The Lipky nature trail is about five kilometres long and has ten stops, including Forest Society Borovná. The approximate length gives you an idea of the trail’s scope; the stops divide it into individual points of interest. The trail therefore offers a way to explore Borovná’s natural environment along a route with several stops. Check the route details before setting out.
Two routes with different details may also be relevant to your plans. Cycle Route 5261 runs from Dobrá Voda to Borovná and then on to Telč. Another route is 17 kilometres long and runs from Telč via Stará Borovná, Borovná and other places before returning to Telč. The first is defined by the sequence of places; the second is described by its length and return to Telč. This lets you distinguish the Dobrá Voda–Borovná–Telč connection from the 17-kilometre route starting and ending in Telč. Check seasonal route conditions for Cycle Route 5261.
At holiday house No. 15 in Borovná, the Koryto self-service bar serves refreshments from spring to autumn. If you would like to factor this seasonal service into your plans, check that it is available before your trip.

If you enjoy combining nature with history, these points of reference add another perspective on Borovná to your stay.
