Zmišovice’s historical past

Zmišovice offers a clear introduction to the history of the village. At the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, it was the largest village in its historical judicial district, with nine farmsteads. The number of farmsteads describes the village structure at the time; its ranking refers to the judicial district as a historical frame of comparison. The Zmišovice judicial district, the “rychta,” lay at the centre of the Červená Řečice estate and was headed by a reeve. The village, judicial district and estate thus represent different levels of the order of the time. The number of farmsteads conveys the scale, while “rychta” and the reeve help explain the historical organisation.

Everyday life can also be understood through a specific connection to the Pod Hodějovicí mill: the inhabitants of Zmišovice and Těchoraz took their grain there. This practice adds an economic aspect of everyday life to the history of the district and estate, and connects the inhabitants of both places with a nearby mill.

Since the mid-17th century, at least a public, outwardly expressed Catholic faith has been documented among the inhabitants of Zmišovice and Těchoraz. This religious aspect adds another perspective on the inhabitants’ lives to the administrative and everyday history.

Cycling route and countryside

Cycling route 1218 connects Želiv, Červená Řečice and Pacov. For planning a cycling trip, it is a specifically named connection between three places. A directory of tourist routes and paths provides an overview; the numbered cycling route identifies one particular connection. This lets you distinguish general route information from planning based on this specific route.

The Trnávka Reservoir is used for recreation and sport. Its focus differs from that of the castle: here, leisure and sport take centre stage, while the castle is a cultural monument with Renaissance fortifications. This gives you two clearly distinct themes to consider when planning your trip.

In the Želiv Basin landscape, a monastery complex inhabited by Premonstratensians shapes the scenery. This adds a distinct landscape aspect to the histories of the places and their individual buildings: the effect of the monastery complex on the basin landscape is the focus here.
