Discover Důl: Dolák Pond, cycling routes and cultural heritage
Accommodation in Důl
Důl combines specific cycling routes and a marked hiking trail with ponds, an orchard, and historic buildings. Route details and distinctive local features help you find your bearings when planning a trip. This lets you decide whether activity, scenery, or cultural history should shape your stay.
Routes and getting your bearings
A stone cross stands on the main access road about 200 m before the Důl sign. An iron cross on a stone plinth is about 50 m before the sign, near a turnoff onto a field track. The approximate distances and different features help distinguish the two landmarks.
Cycle Route No. 321 passes through Důl and runs from Jindřichův Hradec to Louňovice pod Blaníkem. The 34.6 km circular cycling route “The Beautiful Nature from Pacov to Kámen Castle” runs from Pacov via Důl; Důl is listed as the second stop after Pacov. The blue-marked Pelhřimov–Mladá Vožice hiking trail also passes through Důl. The routes differ in format: a cycling connection between two named places, a circular route, and a marked hiking trail.
Ponds and landscape
Rybník Dolák lies 800 m north of Důl, below a hill at the turnoff from Pošenská Street toward Důl. On hot summer days, it is a popular place for swimming and relaxation. The pond is therefore both a specific landmark and a place with a named summer use.
Důl also has larger and smaller picturesque private ponds. Kingfishers or herons can occasionally be spotted there. Meadows along the Novodvorský potok stream line the western side of the village. Southeast of Důl, toward Vrchy, the revitalized Třešňovka orchard lies on a hill. Cherry trees have been planted there alongside pear, plum, and walnut trees. The “Nad třešňovou alejí” viewpoint looks out over Pošná.
Culture and local traditions
In Důl, the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk is one of the municipality’s historic monuments. It adds a specific cultural and historical landmark in the village to its landscape features.
In Nová Ves, within the municipality of Důl, a stone railway viaduct is a prominent feature of the landscape. With its eleven arched openings, it is an example of bridge construction from the late 19th century. Its arched form and building material make the construction method clear in this example.
Less than 4 km south of Důl, Kámen Castle stands in the municipality of Kámen. The castle, originally Gothic, dates back to the 13th century. Its permanent exhibitions include historic motorcycles and displays on living and lifestyle in the 19th century. Alongside the local buildings, this provides another cultural destination in the area with a different historical focus.
A local tradition is the ceremonial switching on of the Christmas lights at Dolská náves. Celebrations were held in 2024 and 2025.
