Skryje offers a range of themes to help you plan your stay: the medieval castle site of Rysov, the historic AKA complex, individual buildings and hiking trails in the Bobrovka Valley. The history of the castle and settlement tells of different construction phases, while paths, hills and springs draw your attention to the landscape. The following sections introduce these themes, each with its own focus.

Rysov Castle and Medieval Traces

The ruined Rysov Castle is a cultural monument in the Skryje area. As a feudal lord’s residence, it was a castle with a keep, dating from the late 13th to the mid-14th century. The complex survives in the terrain and in fragments of masonry; it is considered an archaeological and cultural-historical monument. At Rysov, the focus is therefore both on the castle’s former form and on the traces that remain. For anyone interested in medieval fortifications, it offers a distinct historical focus in the village.

The AKA Complex: Plans and What Remains

Fuchs designed the AKA complex in Skryje as an integrated urban structure. A factory and a residential development of detached houses were planned on the right bank of the river. Plans for the left bank included accommodation, a community building used as a cinema, and technical infrastructure consisting of a waterworks, bridges and a hydroelectric power station. Construction began between 1937 and 1939, but the project was only partially completed; the hydroelectric power station was completed in 1942. The plans and what remains should be distinguished: the surviving parts of the AKA complex include, in particular, houses, a bridge and a water-supply structure. The complex offers a different perspective on Skryje’s history than Rysov does: the planned connection between production, housing and infrastructure.

Mill and Chapel

The protected watermill Buchalův mlýn is located at house no. 13 in Skryje, on the Bobrůvka, also known as the Loučka. Its present form is a fine example of rural Baroque from the early 19th century, while it also has an older core. Two time periods are therefore important to its building history: its present form and its older core. A chapel also stands on a hill at the site of the former Hrádek. The mill and chapel point to different historical themes: building development on the one hand and the former site of Hrádek on the other.

Hiking Trails, Hills and Springs

Numerous hiking trails in the municipality of Skryje lead from the picturesque Bobrovka Valley to practically every hilltop. One specifically named trail is marked red and leads from Skryje in the direction of Šafránkův mlýn. This gives you both numerous routes to the hilltops and a specific direction to consider when planning your hikes. The area also has several spring wells and natural springs with high-quality water. Because the groundwater level is falling, some are no longer active. If you plan to visit the springs, bear in mind that not all of them are active.

Plan Your Journey

A trip to Skryje is planned by taking the bus to the terminus in the municipality. Check the timetable for your travel date before setting off. This will let you combine your journey with the places that interest you most in Skryje: historic buildings, the castle site, or hiking trails through the valley and over the hills.
