Ořechov offers a range of attractions for a stay: churches with a history that can be dated, an annual walking pilgrimage held in May, and natural areas with trails, bodies of water and wildlife watching. You can plan your trip around whether you want to focus on architectural history, an annual event or nature.

Churches and Historical Sites

The Church of St. George was built as a fortified church. The term refers to the defensive character of its design, highlighting a distinctive aspect of its history. Its ceiling frescoes were restored from 2005 to 2010. This dated restoration period adds a specific chapter in the more recent history of the church to its earlier architectural history.

The Church of All Saints was consecrated on 6 July 1900. Its tower holds two bells dating from 1464 and 1564. The bells predate the church’s consecration, giving them their own historical significance alongside the precisely known consecration date. Visitors interested in historic buildings will find both a precisely dated event and older artefacts in the church tower.

Another historic site is the originally Baroque wayside shrine, Boží muka. It dates from the 17th century and was designated a cultural monument on 25 November 1963. Its construction date and designation date mark different stages in its history. A remnant of the defensive wall has also survived to this day.

Visits and Traditions Throughout the Year

The municipal museum is open to the public by prior telephone appointment. Be sure to arrange your visit by phone in advance. If you want to include the museum in your travel plans, making this appointment is the key practical step.

A walking pilgrimage to the Chapel of St. Peregrine takes place every year in May. If you want to travel to Ořechov for this tradition, check the exact date before your trip. This will let you take the recurring event into account when planning, without assuming a specific day.

Nature Park, Wetlands and Trails

Bobrava Nature Park lies in a wooded area between several municipalities, including Ořechov, and encompasses the middle course of the Bobrava stream. Several hiking and cycling routes pass through the park. You can choose to explore on foot or by bike.

The Bobrstezka trail lies in the valley of the Bobrava River, along the boundaries of the cadastral areas of Ořechov, Nebovidy, Želešice and Moravany. As a destination spanning several municipalities, it offers another way to experience the river valley landscape. Naming all four cadastral areas gives a more precise sense of its location without limiting it to a single place.

The Na dolinách wetlands comprise a system of ponds with a permanently water-covered area of 2.122 ha. Numerous rare animals have been observed there. The bodies of water and wildlife watching together make this a place of natural interest. Štikovec Pond, in turn, is a popular spot for walks. While the ponds and wildlife watching are the main attractions at Na dolinách, Štikovec is especially associated with walks.

You can plan your stay around a range of interests: the churches and wayside shrine offer historical points of interest, the pilgrimage is an annual event in May, and the nature park, wetlands and pond offer different ways to experience the landscape. These distinctions are more useful when choosing your travel dates and personal focus than a general description of the town.
