Lysovice: Architectural History, Festivals and Hiking
Accommodation in Lysovice
Lysovice can be explored through several specific interests: historic buildings, recurring events and a red-marked hiking route that passes through the village. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay here, you can first decide whether architectural history, a possible festival visit or hiking will be the main focus of your trip. These three themes offer different perspectives: buildings help place the village’s history in time, events provide a reason to plan around specific dates, and the route presents Lysovice as part of a named corridor.
Historic Buildings and Their Historical Context
Farmhouse No. 21 stands on the north side of Lysovice village square. It is an agricultural farmstead dating from the 18th century, comprising a residential building and a projecting Žudr. The Žudr’s mushroom-shaped entrance is particularly striking: it draws attention to a specific architectural feature and complements the building’s identification as an agricultural farm. Its location on the village square also provides a fixed reference point for locating the building within the village.
Another historic building is the branch Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Lysovice. It is in the historicist-eclectic style and dates from 1923–1924. It was consecrated on 2 August 1924. The construction period and consecration date are two different time references: the first describes the period when the building was constructed, while the second is the day it was consecrated. There is also a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1732, in the centre of Lysovice.
Lysovice was first mentioned in writing in 1465, when the village appeared under the name Lissiwicz. This year marks the first written mention, not the construction date of any of the buildings mentioned here. The statue dating from 1732 and the 18th-century farmhouse each provide their own historical context; the church was added later, with its construction in the early 20th century. This makes it possible to distinguish the history of the village from the architectural history, rather than reading all the dates as referring to the same subject.
Recurring Festivals as a Reason to Visit
Krojované hody is held regularly in Lysovice. The 2025 programme included raising a maypole on Friday, a procession in traditional costume through the village followed by evening entertainment on Saturday, and Sunday Mass in the church. The festival programme therefore spans several days and combines a village custom with a procession and a church service.
Pohádková cesta a stezka odvahy is also held regularly at the end of August. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these festivals, check the dates for your chosen year before arranging your stay.
Hiking Route Through Lysovice
A red-marked hiking route passes through Lysovice. The named corridor runs in this order: Ždánický les, Bučovice, Lysovice, Hlubočany, Vyškov, Jedovnice and Moravský kras. Lysovice is therefore part of a route that lists several named places and landscape areas in sequence. For your travel plans, this is a different point of reference from the historic buildings or a festival date: you can also choose the village with this hiking corridor in mind and consider which section would suit your stay.
