The traditional Ostatky custom may also play a part in your travel plans. If you are looking for a hotel, these highlights can help you decide in advance what interests you most about the area.
Local history and Hrádek u Snovídek
According to Volný, Snovídky was first mentioned in written records in 1360. Another historical connection leads to Bučovice: after Tas z Ojnic became lord of Snovídky and the Bučovice estate, Snovídky and Bučovice, located eight kilometres to the west, had the same owners. The 1360 mention and the later ownership relationship mark different chapters in the area's history and provide two specific historical points of reference.
The traces of Hrádek u Snovídek in the terrain include a ditch up to ten metres wide and three metres deep, as well as a rampart that survives along much of the perimeter. Hrádek is an abandoned castle. It is thought to have probably originated in the Middle Ages, though it may also date to the Hallstatt period. The castle is believed to have been destroyed by fire. Both the dating and the presumed end of the castle are therefore uncertain. Hrádek u Snovídek is listed as freely accessible; check access before your visit.
The Bezdýnka spring and wildlife
An information board at the Bezdýnka spring provides information about the spring and the Bezdýnka nature trail. As of 2015, the spring was flowing and considered easily accessible; it could be reached by bicycle via a path. Before visiting, check the conditions and the state of the board and nature trail.
Local wildlife also offers a connection with nature. Beavers have been present on the Kyjovka stream in Snovídky since 2004. Wild animals reported in Snovídky include red deer, roe deer, wild boar, pheasants and hares. This brings together a specific stream and a broader list of species, although sightings are not guaranteed.
Traditions and travel
The traditional Ostatky in Snovídky include a masked procession through the village. If you would like to plan your stay around it, check the event date in advance, as dates may change. The procession is therefore a specific occasion to consider when planning your trip, and you should check its date ahead of time.
