Get to know Kobylí through three specific themes: wine growing, local history and nature. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Kobylí, these interests can help with your planning: Would you like to focus on local exhibitions and architectural history, take in the wine-growing landscape, or include trails and bodies of water? These different focuses offer clues to which sides of the town you might like to explore further.

Wine Growing, Grape Varieties and Wine Cellar Lane

Wine growing is present at several specific sites in Kobylí. The registered vineyards cover 289 hectares; this figure may change over time. The slopes around the former Kobylí Lake offer suitable conditions for numerous white grape varieties, including Veltlínské zelené, Tramín, Neuburské and Müller-Thurgau. Blue varieties include Frankovka, Modrý Portugal, Svatovavřinecké and André. Comparing the groups of varieties gives a tangible sense of the diversity of the local wine-growing landscape.

The Muzeum Kobylí has an exhibition on the history of wine growing in Kobylí. Suchořádská Zmola is a wine cellar lane where winemakers meet to taste typical wines from Kobylí. At the lower end of the site stands an old wooden wine press, restored and preserved in 2002. The different aspects of wine growing come together here: its history in the museum, the winemakers’ tasting tradition and a specific restored piece of equipment.

Museum, Church and Views

The Muzeum Kobylí is located in the rooms of the former civic school. An exhibition on the development of Kobylí’s traditional costume complements the wine-growing exhibition. The museum thus covers two different aspects of local history: clothing and wine growing.

Kostel sv. Jiří is a historic landmark in Kobylí. Its Gothic presbytery, dating from around the late 15th century, has been preserved. From the cemetery next to the church, there are expansive views of Pálava and the Ždánický les landscape. The museum and church offer different focuses: one centers on exhibitions, while the other is a historic church building with a preserved architectural feature.

Trails and the Waterside Landscape

The Naučná stezka Kobylí leads from Kobylí through the vineyards to a viewpoint. Six information panels cover local attractions and the history of the village. The trail thus combines a route through the vineyards with information about local history. The Stezka nad vinohrady was built in 2018 on Kobylí vrch, also known locally as Homole, which lies 334 metres above sea level. The two trails have different emphases: the Naučná stezka Kobylí focuses on its route and information panels, while the Stezka nad vinohrady highlights the hill and its elevation.

Biocentrum Ostrůvek comprises 13 ponds and a stream that has been extended by about 170 metres. A new bird-watching point offers the chance, with a little luck, to see bee-eaters or purple herons. The route description for the Velkopavlovická Wine Trail lists Kobylí railway station among the stations along the route.
