Hradčany combines a distinctive landscape feature with historical landmarks and municipal recreational facilities. The Chapel of St. Anne shapes the village’s appearance; Horka is home to sports facilities, and the Sádek recreational area offers play equipment and a workout course. The cycling connection near Stráž and the bus stop on road II/385 also help with orientation. When planning a trip to Hradčany, you can therefore consider several different focuses: architectural history and monuments, recreation and sports, and getting around by bike and bus.

Chapel and historical traces

Hradčany’s distinctive landmark is the Chapel of St. Anne. The present-day chapel was built in 1969, replacing an earlier chapel. The first military land survey, dating from 1764, already records a Chapel of St. Anne in Hradčany. The two dates refer to different points in time: 1764 marks the earlier chapel in the village, while 1969 marks the construction of the present-day building. If you are interested in local history, this offers a clear chronological comparison between the earlier record and the chapel that stands today.

Other memorial sites each have their own significance. The monument to the victims of the world wars was solemnly unveiled on April 29, 1923. Hradčany also has a wayside shrine, called a Boží muka in Czech; its year of construction is unknown. Ramparts and an earthen embankment from the former fortification are still visible. Thus, a precisely dated monument, an undated wayside shrine and visible traces of fortifications represent different kinds of historical landmarks.

Recreation and leisure at Horka and Sádek

Horka Hill is a prominent landscape feature in Hradčany. Its area is designated for recreation and relaxation. The Horka plateau has municipal sports facilities, including a football pitch, a multi-purpose court and ancillary facilities. They have been in operation since 1953. Horka therefore brings together two distinct aspects: the designated recreational use of the landscape and specific sports infrastructure on the plateau.

The Sádek recreational area currently has play equipment for younger children and a workout course for teenagers. The facilities are aimed at different age groups: younger children can use the play equipment, while the course is intended for teenagers. These leisure options offer a different focus from the football pitch and multi-purpose court on Horka. If you are travelling with children or teenagers, you can take this information into account when choosing your activities.

Cycling and bus information

From Stráž, you can connect to the EuroVelo cycle route, which continues toward Kuřim, Brno, Tišnov or Nedvědice. These directions indicate possible onward routes for cyclists setting out from Stráž. Horka Hill is easily accessible from the area around the transformer station. The two details address different questions: the EuroVelo connection indicates where you can continue cycling from Stráž, while the transformer station indicates how to access the hill.

Hradčany is in IDS JMK fare zone; there is a bus stop on road II/385. The fare zone and the location of the stop are separate points to consider when planning your journey. If you plan to travel by bus, check the current timetable before your trip.

A dated event day

At the Babské hody on Saturday, September 13, 2025, a procession in traditional dress, accompanied by the Podhorácká kapela brass band, passed through the entire municipality. Visitors were also invited to a dance event at the cultural centre, which began at 8 p.m.
