Česká between the Ponávka Valley and the Bell Tower
Accommodation in Česká
Česká can be explored for trip planning through two interests: nature and trails on the one hand, and local architectural history and festivals on the other. If you are considering a stay, these themes can help you decide whether the landscape, historical landmarks or an event date is the deciding factor.
Landscape and trails
Česká is located in the Bobravská vrchovina, more precisely in the Řečkovicko-kuřimský prolom subregion. The Šiberná natural monument lies along the northern cadastral boundary. To the west, the wooded ridge of Kuřimská hora forms Česká’s western cadastral boundary and is part of Baba Nature Park. These details locate different landscape features along the edges of the cadastral area.
The Ponávka Valley, with a cascade of several ponds, lies on the eastern edge of the cadastral area. The valley also contains wetlands with numerous marsh plants. Thus, ponds and wetlands are the main features in the east, while the wooded ridge marks the western edge.
The marked Stezka zdraví (Health Trail), equipped with information boards, runs through the Ponávka Valley. Another tourist route passes through Baba Nature Park between Kuřim and Bystrc. The descriptions offer different ways to orient yourself: the Stezka zdraví is defined by the valley and its boards, while the route through Baba is identified by the two towns at its ends.
Near Česká is the hilly landscape of Baba Nature Park, suitable for relaxation and active leisure. The park is another natural attraction in addition to the Ponávka Valley; however, each of the routes mentioned is tied to its own landscape.
Architectural history in Česká
The stone bell tower in Česká was built at the end of the 18th century. Its bell was cast in 1813 and brought from Brno. A chapel was added to the bell tower in 1902. These dates distinguish between the construction of the building, the casting of the bell and the later addition.
Another historic landmark is the stone cross at the junction of the roads to Lelekovice. The municipality of Cinsendorf had it erected in 1883. This cross adds a separate site to the architectural history of the bell tower.
Festivals and events
The Hody festival takes place every year in Česká. Pálení čarodějnic is also held in the town and is especially popular with children. Pohádkový les takes place on the occasion of Children’s Day. The three events have different focuses: Hody is an annual festival, while the other two are described by their names and occasions.
The Přejezd Moravy event also reaches Česká: the route runs from the border crossing with Poland to the town and is about 150 kilometres long. Dates and organisation may vary from year to year. If you are considering one of these events as a reason for your trip, check the dates and arrangements before making specific plans.
Connection with Brno
Česká is connected to Brno by MHD line 304. For your specific journey, it is advisable to check the line’s current timetable in advance, as transport information is updated. This lets you factor the connection into your travel plans without assuming a particular journey time.
