Horní Loučky combines a hilly landscape on the southeastern edge of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands with a history first documented in writing in 1353. The Bobrůvka, also known as the Loučka, flows through the village for a short stretch, where it forms a broader floodplain. This gives you two tangible themes to consider when planning your trip: the distinctive landscape and the village’s memorials.

Hilly Landscape and the Bobrůvka

Watercourses have cut deep valleys into the terrain; the slopes are very steep and rocky in places. The landscape also includes a narrow floodplain, while the Bobrůvka forms a broader floodplain along its short stretch through Horní Loučky. The village’s landscape description therefore brings together deeply incised valleys, steep slopes and floodplains of different widths. If you consider the landscape when choosing your destination, you get a concrete picture of the terrain rather than merely being told it is hilly. The river’s short stretch through the village and the broader floodplain are distinctive reference points.

Historical Milestones

Horní Loučky is first documented in writing in 1353. In 1502, the two villages of Loučky, a ruined castle, a rectory and a farm were sold to Jan and Václav of Lomnice. On April 16, 1519, the castle site and the village of Horní Loučky were sold to the monastery of Tišnov. The two transactions are described differently: in 1502, several properties and two villages are named together; in 1519, the focus is on the castle site and the village of Horní Loučky. This distinction can help you place the village’s history in context and keep the locations and scope of the two sales separate.

Chapel, Memorial and Crosses

The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands in Horní Loučky. Nearby, a war memorial commemorates the First World War: made of gneiss, it bears a marble plaque with the names of nine local residents. Another memorial to an individual is the bust of Hynek Kokojan. It depicts the local man, who was born in Horní Loučky, in uniform with decorations, and was created in 1946 by sculptor Josef Baják. The memorial and the bust differ in form and focus: the plaque names nine people, while the bust depicts a single person.

Two crosses can also be distinguished by their materials, locations and dates. A sandstone cross stands in the village square. Its pedestal bears the date 1864 and, apparently added later, the date 1883; the corpus is gilded. A marble cross stands in the fields beside the road to Kaly, between two linden trees. It was donated in 1920 by the Halouzkova family. Thus, the sandstone cross bears two dates, although it is uncertain whether 1883 was added later; the marble cross has a named donor family and a recorded donation year.
