Medlov combines an open, treeless landscape with a distinctive historic townscape. The town lies in the Dyjsko-svratecký úval on the left bank of the Jihlava; the area around Medlov is part of the Niva Jihlava Nature Park. This combination offers a clear starting point when planning a stay focused on both the landscape and specific cultural monuments. The main distinctions are between the river and park landscape, sacred architecture and local events. Before looking for a hotel in Medlov, you can consider which focus best suits your trip.

Landscape and Location

The open, treeless surroundings place Medlov in the Dyjsko-svratecký úval. At the same time, the town lies on the left bank of the Jihlava, and its area belongs to the Niva Jihlava Nature Park. These are two related but distinct aspects to consider when choosing a destination: the river describes the location, while the nature park provides the broader landscape context. If the surroundings are particularly important to your travel plans, you can consider these features alongside the historic sights as a reason in their own right to visit Medlov.

Church and Monuments

The Baroque Church of St. Bartholomew is the local architectural landmark. Its core is Gothic and dates from the late 13th century. The building thus offers two perspectives on the town’s history: its Baroque character and its medieval core. The column featuring a group of figures of the Holy Trinity was erected in 1698 in Medlov’s village square. The statue of St. John of Nepomuk is also among Medlov’s notable monuments. The church, column and statue offer different points of interest for those interested in cultural history: architectural history, a dated monument in the village square and another prominent statue of a saint.

Events Throughout the Year

Local traditions include the Bartolomějské hody, a traditional event in Medlov. “Medlov sobě” is an annual cultural event; an invitation was issued for June 15, 2024. Fishing competitions at Medlovské jezero were announced for May. The notices differ in what they say about timing: the Hody are described as a tradition, “Medlov sobě” as an annual event, and the lake competitions as an announcement for May. Dates and programs may vary. Check current event details before travelling and, for the fishing competitions, check the participation information.
