Veverské Knínice – Valley, Hiking Trail and Cultural Monuments
Accommodation in Veverské Knínice
Veverské Knínice lies in a small valley along the Knínický potok. A regional bus route connects the village with Brno, a yellow-marked hiking trail passes through it, and the landscape and cultural history offer specific topics to consider when planning your trip. This lets you decide in advance whether your priorities are the connection to Brno, a hiking route or the area’s historical associations.
Bus Connection and Hiking Trail
Regional bus route 402 connects Brno with Veverské Knínice via Troubsko, Popůvky, the Masaryk Ring, Ostrovačice and Říčany. The route information is current as of August 24, 2026; timetables and service patterns may change. Before your trip, check the timetable if you plan to use the route to get there or continue your journey.
The yellow-marked hiking trail is also clearly mapped: it runs from Javůrek through Veverské Knínice to Podkomorská myslivna. The village therefore lies along the stated route between its two endpoints. If you choose this route, check the trail conditions locally. The bus route and hiking trail address different planning needs: one lists Brno and intermediate stops, while the other gives the sequence of places along a trail.
Valley and Waterside Landscape
The small valley along the Knínický potok defines the setting of Veverské Knínice. Near the village, a system of meanders, wetlands and pools was created along a stretch of the stream just under one kilometre long. The destination’s landscape therefore includes both its valley setting and a waterside area with varied bodies of water and wetlands. Conditions in this habitat may change. In addition, Veverka is designated as a significant landscape feature within the administrative area of Veverské Knínice.
Churches and Protected Monuments
The Church of St. Nicholas stands on a slight rise in the eastern part of Veverské Knínice and is protected as an immovable cultural monument. The statue of St. John of Nepomuk, also protected, stands in the village square. The wayside shrine Boží muka na Oulehlách is likewise protected as a cultural monument. The Chapel of St. Ludmila stands above the village. These landmarks are therefore spread across the eastern part of the village, the village square and the area above the village.
Historical Links to the Monastery and Castle
Veverské Knínice is first mentioned in a document issued in Znojmo on October 31, 1234. The document confirms the possessions and privileges of Porta Coeli Monastery. Veverské Knínice was also historically subject to the monastery in economic matters. Another historical link is to the royal Castle Veveří: Veverské Knínice, then called Německé Kněnice, had certain obligations toward it.
