Šerkovice between the stream, forest and history
Accommodation in Šerkovice
The Besének stream flows through Šerkovice from north to south. The village is surrounded on almost all sides by coniferous and mixed forests; at the same time, the surrounding countryside is hilly and highly varied. The stream, forest and undulating terrain offer different ways to experience the natural surroundings. Šerkovice is considered a tourist gateway to the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park.
A London plane (Platanus × hispanica) grows along the Besének. It is a hybrid of the Oriental plane and the American sycamore. It is the only specimen of its kind in the municipality and a distinctive natural feature by the stream. Thus, alongside the stream itself, a single, precisely identified natural landmark is part of the village landscape.
Cycling route, walk and hiking trails
Since 1999, a main cycling route connecting Brno and Prague has passed through Šerkovice. For a different perspective, take the Obora walk: it leads through the Besének valley towards Lomnice. A long-distance cycling connection and a walk through the stream valley thus offer two distinct ways to explore the area. When planning your stay, you can first decide whether cycling or a walk by the stream better suits your plans.
The “Od rozhledny Klucanina po Květnici” hike passes through Šerkovice, which is one of its designated waypoints. As route details may change, check the current route before setting out. In Šerkovice, the Tišnovská pivní stezka passes a tourist shelter and stops at the Chapel of St. Anne. The specific points of interest differ on these routes: Šerkovice is a waypoint on the hike, while the Tišnovská pivní stezka includes a stop at a named building.
Chapels and historic buildings
The Chapel of St. Anne on the village square was built in 1851. Another chapel is dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius; since 1895, it has stood in a corner of the former school building. The two buildings can therefore be distinguished by their settings: one is on the village square, the other in a former school building.
The former fruit-drying house, number 47, is a state-protected monument dating from the 19th century and is currently used as a private holiday property. Alongside the religious buildings, it represents a building with a former agricultural function in the village’s history; its current use is private.
Memorial sites and Jermak
The former forester’s lodge by Paní Hora forest was built by Porta Coeli Monastery in 1900. Between 1980 and 1990, it was established as a memorial to the Jermak partisan unit. The surrounding forests are also linked to this history: a base of the Jermak partisan detachment was located there. Šerkovice is also home to the “Památník v Šerkovicích,” a memorial to the JERMAK partisan unit. Together, these details reflect the different locations associated with the commemoration: a base in the surrounding forests, the former forester’s lodge by Paní Hora forest and a memorial site in Šerkovice.
The landscape and trails offer different points of interest from the chapels, historic buildings and memorial sites. You can choose your destination based on the themes that interest you most during your stay.
