Vusi: Reservoir Cove and Relocated Church
Accommodation in Vusi
Vusi offers two distinct points of interest for planning a trip: the waterscape around the Orlík Reservoir and the cultural history surrounding the Church of St. Bartholomew. The cove, stream and valley give the natural setting a concrete form; the relocated church links architecture with the history of the flooded village of Červená.
Waterscape, fishing and boats
The flooded lower reaches of the Hrejkovický potok form a curved cove of the Orlík Reservoir about 2 km long. Fly fishing, float fishing and bottom fishing are permitted in the HREJKOVICKÝ POTOK 1 fishing area, subject to the current permit conditions. The area begins at the boundary signs near the Hrejkovický potok’s confluence with the Orlík Reservoir at Vůsí and extends upstream to the source. Check the current permit and access rules before fishing.
On the Orlík waterway, Květov/Vůsí is listed at river kilometre 177 as a designated mooring for boats. Before setting out by boat, check the current waterway information. For planning purposes, keep these connections to the water distinct: the cove describes the landscape, the fishing area is for angling, and the mooring is a point of reference for boats. Depending on whether you are interested in the landscape, fishing or a boat trip, different practical questions will arise.
Valley, cave and old beech woodland
Near Vůsí, the Hrejkovický potok flows through a deep and unexpectedly wild valley, which is a popular destination for hikers. Unlike the curved reservoir cove, the focus here is the stream valley: two distinct types of landscape, each with its own connection to the water.
A 2020 museum publication locates a rock cave near Vůsí, about 1 km south of the village on the Hrejkovický potok; it describes the adjacent path as heavily used by tourists. The cave is located by reference to an approximate distance and the stream; the statement about heavy tourist use refers to the adjacent path.
Another regional natural attraction is the Rukávečská obora. It is protected because of its preserved stand of old beech trees; the oldest trees were planted in 1729. Here, the focus is on the old trees, while elsewhere the landscape can be explored through the cove and valley.
Church of St. Bartholomew and local history
The Romanesque Church of St. Bartholomew, with its old cemetery, lies near Vůsí, within the village’s cadastral area. It is considered a significant urban-planning and landscape-defining feature. In 1960, it was relocated from the flooded village of Červená to higher ground. This move links the history of the church with the flooding of Červená.
The dates refer to different events: 1729 marks the planting of the oldest beech trees in the Rukávečská obora, while 1960 marks the church’s relocation. This makes it possible to place the protected trees’ natural history and the settlement history surrounding St. Bartholomew clearly in time.
A road description for orientation
A municipal cultural publication from 2020 describes a winding paved road leading from Vůsí towards the water. If you use this description for a specific journey, check the current road conditions, as they can change.
