Kluky lies by the Chřešťovský Stream in the Písecké hory. Two themes are central to planning a trip: routes in the surrounding area and historical points of interest in the village. The area is suitable for hiking and cycling; a blue-marked hiking route and two numbered cycling routes also pass through or by Kluky. You can plan your trip according to whether you are more interested in the routes or the village’s history.

Hiking and cycling in the surrounding area

The blue-marked hiking route through the Písecké hory passes through Kluky between Na Křižatkách and Chřešťovice. Two numbered routes are relevant for cycling. Cycling Route 1016 passes through Kluky and runs from Údraž via Mlaka and U Hromové jedle to Křižatka. Cycling Route 1017 connects Kluky with Písek and Albrechtice nad Vltavou via Chrastiny, Chřešťovice, Jehnědno and Údraž.

You can identify the hiking route by its blue markings and two endpoints; for cycling trips, the route numbers and sequences of places provide orientation. This is a practical distinction when you first choose between hiking and cycling as you plan your trip. The routes mentioned can also be distinguished by the specific places they pass through, rather than treated as a single connection.

Local history across different periods

Kluky was first mentioned in writing in 1323. There are also ceramic fragments from the 13th century, found in Kluky and associated with the inventory book of the Písek Museum. The finds date from before the written mention; they are also distinct historical points of reference: ceramic finds on the one hand, and the first written mention of the village on the other.

Buildings and memorial sites

In the centre of Kluky, house no. 18 reflects the influence of so-called peasant Baroque. Tomáš Fiala built the house around 1791 as a manor cottage on land owned by the estate lord. The small church Kostelík Panny Marie in Kluky is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Construction began in 1947; it was completed in 1948, along with the surrounding wall and the cemetery furnishings. Kluky thus has both building history from the late 18th century and a small church from the mid-20th century.

Hořice also has a historical connection: a monument to Jan Hus was erected there at the initiative of teacher Jan Zoubek. The house, small church and monument each represent a different focus—architecture, religious dedication and remembrance of Jan Hus. Along with the first written mention and the ceramic finds, they offer several ways to explore Kluky’s history rather than one continuous narrative.

Planning your trip to Kluky

If you are looking for hotels in Kluky, you can start by choosing what you want to focus on: hiking and cycling in the surrounding area, or the village’s architecture and history. The routes can be distinguished by their markings, numbers and the places they pass through; the historical points of reference span different periods and types of evidence. This lets you plan your trip around the themes that bring you to Kluky.
