When choosing a hotel in Vitín, it is worth first considering the character of the village: local highlights range from the early medieval burial mound cemetery near Baba to a chapel dating to 1815 and Havlák Pond. There are also signposted cycling and hiking trails. You can tailor your stay to cultural history, sport fishing, or planning excursions. Each site offers a different way to discover Vitín: archaeological history, a historic building, or a waterside and biotope landscape.

Archaeology near Baba

The Vitín burial mound cemetery lies on the southeastern slope of Baba Hill. The early medieval Slavic cemetery comprises 69 burial mounds dating from the late 8th and 9th centuries. They are arranged in regular rows from west to east. Along with its dating, this spatial arrangement is a distinctive feature of the archaeological site. In June 2026, a blue-marked hiking trail led to the burial mound cemetery near Baba. Check the current route of the trail markings before setting out.

Chapel and village layout

Vitín’s village layout also has a long history: it dates back to the High Middle Ages. This is distinct from the Chapel of St John of Nepomuk, which dates to 1815. It is a small, masonry village chapel with a semicircular apse and a bell turret in the gable. An apse is the rounded end of a building, while the gable is the upper part of the end wall. These features describe the chapel’s compact design. The village layout and chapel thus represent different historical points of reference in Vitín.

Havlák: pond and sport fishing

Sport fishing is offered at the municipal Havlák Pond. The body of water covers more than 7,000 square metres. The revitalised pond includes a pool area with an adjoining biotope. Its size and revitalisation describe two different aspects of the same place: the dimensions of the water body and its water and biotope structure. If you would like to include sport fishing in your trip plans, Havlák is a specific highlight alongside the village’s historical attractions.

Cycling route and landscape

The signposted local KČT cycling route No. 1058 runs from Hluboká nad Vltavou via Chotýčany and Vitín to Ševětín. Unlike the hiking trail leading to the burial mound cemetery, the cycling route lists a series of places. This distinguishes two different types of route: a named hiking destination and a signposted cycle route through several places. Check the current route before setting out, as route infrastructure can change.

The surrounding landscape also includes the Natura 2000 site Hlubocké obory, which covers the cadastral area of Vitín. In South Bohemia, Hlubocké obory is among the most valuable areas of near-natural woodland, particularly oak-hornbeam and lime-beech forests. The scale is important here: Havlák is a single pond, while Hlubocké obory refers to a larger natural area.

The wider transport infrastructure can also be put into context: the D3 motorway between Prague and České Budějovice crosses the cadastral area of the municipality of Vitín.
