Habří is a destination for travelers interested in rural architectural and religious history. A 15th-century fortress stands in the village square; several chapels and the ruins of the Church of Saint Vitus are also local attractions. The town lies in the Blanský les Protected Landscape Area, and forest covers the western part of its cadastral area. When choosing where to stay, you can therefore take into account both Habří’s historic buildings and its setting in the landscape.

Fortress and former brewery

Tvrz Fortress was originally a Renaissance building and was later remodeled in the Baroque and Neoclassical styles. Vaults in the cellar and ground floor have survived from the former fortress. The residential building in the complex has two stories and a hipped roof. The roof also slopes down at the ends of the building, distinguishing its form from a roof with vertical gable ends. Together, the building’s history, the surviving vaults and the form of the residential building offer several clues to the complex’s architectural character.

The former brewery is directly adjacent to the restored fortress complex. Sundials are painted on its wall next to the fortress. The brewery and the fortress are thus described as adjoining but distinct structures: the Tvrz’s history of alterations on the one hand, and the wall decoration of the former brewery on the other. The sundials add a distinctive architectural detail to the larger structures.

Chapels and religious history

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk was built by local residents in 1867. It is masonry-built and designed in the Romanesque Revival style; its ground plan is rectangular, with a three-sided end. These details make the chapel a distinct example alongside the older fortress. Its form can be described through several specific features, without conflating it with the Tvrz’s different phases of alteration.

The Chapel of the Holy Trinity is also part of the town’s history: it was consecrated on May 16, 1892. Pilgrimages are held at the chapel every year. If you want to plan your stay around this religious event, check the dates locally. The exact date of the consecration and the annual tradition are separate details about timing; current pilgrimage dates are what matter when planning a trip.

Ruins of the Church of Saint Vitus

About one kilometer west of Habří, the ruins of the Church of Saint Vitus lie in a natural valley. The church was founded in 1644 near a pilgrimage site and a miraculous spring. A stone wall with three windows topped by pointed arches has survived. A Chapel of Saint Vitus was added next to the ruins at the end of the 19th century. The history of the church and the later addition of the chapel therefore stand side by side at this site.

There are wooden benches and tables by the church ruins, intended for resting or having a picnic. If necessary, check their condition locally. The approximate distance west of Habří helps distinguish the ruins’ location from the fortress in the village square; it does not indicate a walking time. For travelers interested in historic religious buildings, the surviving wall, pointed-arch windows and chapel are the specific features of this site.

Landscape and character of the town

Habří lies in the Blanský les Protected Landscape Area. Forest covers the western part of the cadastral area, while the fortress, former brewery buildings and chapels form the town’s historic center of interest. These two perspectives are easy to distinguish when planning a trip: the buildings tell of different historical and religious contexts, while the forest describes one part of the landscape. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Habří, the town’s history and its location in the protected area can guide your choice of destination.
