For a trip to Temelín, there are two distinct areas of interest to explore: the history and technology surrounding Vysoký Hrádek, and the rural architecture of the Temelín 13 farmstead. Consider which subject will shape your trip most. This will help you plan your visits and search for a hotel to suit your personal reason for travelling.

Vysoký Hrádek: From Manor Farm to Information Centre

Vysoký Hrádek began as a manor farm built by the Lords of Březí. The complex was later expanded into a fortress. During the rule of Václav Malovec, the fortress was transformed into a small chateau. These stages tell the story of the complex's successive transformations: from manor farm to fortress to small chateau. If you are interested in architectural and regional history, this sequence offers a concrete way to trace the development of the site.

Following extensive structural reconstruction, Vysoký Hrádek reopened to the public as the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant information centre in October 1997. A virtual tour, ReakTour, also offered a technical view of the power plant: on 6 February 2026, ČEZ reported that it uses virtual reality headsets to provide a look inside secure areas, including the reactor, cooling tower, and control room.

The Temelín 13 Farmstead and Its Architecture

The rural farmstead at Temelín 13 stands on the south side of the long village square. Both the residential building and the granary face the square. The granary stands separately, opposite the residential building; a stucco-decorated perimeter wall with a gate and a smaller pedestrian entrance separates the two buildings.

This ensemble allows you to consider its orientation and layout together: the buildings face the village square, while the wall and its openings enclose the space between the house and the granary. Temelín 13 thus offers a different approach to architectural history than Vysoký Hrádek. Here, the focus is on the layout of a rural farmstead and its architectural details; there, you can trace the transformation from manor farm to fortress and small chateau.
