Local history, sacred architecture and nature shape the topics you can discover in Oslov. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Oslov, you can start by choosing according to your interests: historic buildings, landscapes or a particular hiking trail. The places and details below provide specific points of reference.

Churches and buildings in Oslov

The Church of St. Linhart (Kostel sv. Linharta) stands in the center of Oslov, on the north side of the village square. It was originally Gothic. Historic groin vaults and a coffered ceiling have been preserved inside. These features show two different forms of ceiling design: both groin vaults and a coffered ceiling are among the church interior’s preserved features.

The Chapel of St. Anna (Kaple sv. Anny) stands on the edge of the village. It was built between 1545 and 1548 on the site of an earlier hermitage. A Baroque painting of St. Anne from the first half of the 18th century hangs above the altar. The construction dates and the age of the painting relate to different periods in the site’s history: the chapel was built in the 16th century, and the painting was added later.

Another sacred structure is the early Baroque roadside shrine (boží muka) at the northern edge of the village, along the road toward Zvíkov. Its form can be described from the bottom up: a solid, cube-shaped base supports an irregularly cylindrical shaft, topped by a cube-shaped lantern. The pillar is built of masonry and plastered. Its location on the edge of the village and its distinctive sequence of forms together help identify this roadside shrine.

The history of engineering is also represented in the area around Oslov. Between 1886 and 1889, a steel railway truss bridge was built above the Orlík Dam. It is 253 meters long and has a deck on top of the truss. Its construction period, length and design give the bridge a distinctive place in engineering history, alongside the village’s sacred buildings.

Pond and natural areas

The local Židovna Pond is associated with yellow irises along its banks and carp anglers. The Výří skály Nature Reserve lies approximately two kilometers from Oslov. The Svatá Anna Peninsula is designated as a protected natural area and is also home to the Church of St. Anna (sv. Anny). In the Krkavčina area, there is also a remnant of a relict pine forest on siliceous substrate, where bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi) grows. These details describe different aspects of nature: the pond, designated protected areas, and a distinctive forest remnant with a named plant species.

Hiking trails and directions

For the Výří skály Nature Reserve, its distance from Oslov and the course of a hiking route are two separate points of reference. The green-marked route starts in Tukleky, leads to the protected area and then continues to Zvíkov Castle. By contrast, the distance of approximately two kilometers refers to the reserve’s location relative to Oslov. As trail conditions may vary, check them before planning your trip.

The Partyzánská educational trail passes through the area west of Oslov and introduces visitors to the history of resistance and partisan activity in the region. It is 6.3 kilometers long. The trail runs from the Oslov bus stop via Černý vrch, U Chyšáka samoty, U Chyšáků, the confluence of the Otava and Lomnice rivers, and Pazderny, ending at the Oslov cemetery. This describes both the trail’s historical theme and its length and notable points along the way.
