Draschitz: Castle, Chapels and Beer Culture
Accommodation in Draschitz
Draschitz combines sacred architecture, castle history and beer culture. Alongside the individual buildings, Pivovarský dvůr Lipan and the 34 km Pivní stezka – Route 2 offer further points of interest for your trip. The themes range from specific architectural details to a longer route. If you are looking for a hotel in Draschitz, these themes can help you decide what you want to focus on during your stay: local history and architecture on the one hand, and the brewery and route on the other.
Chapels, Castle and Local History
On the southern edge of Dražíč, along the road towards Chrášťany, stands the Baroque Chapel of St John of Nepomuk. It sits on a grassy area at a change in elevation and is a striking feature of the landscape. Monument protection applies to the chapel, not to the plot of land. A second Baroque chapel, dedicated to St Nicholas, was added to the castle in the first third of the 18th century. The two chapels can therefore be distinguished by their different locations: one on the southern edge of the village, the other as an extension of the castle.
Dražíč Castle is a rectangular, single-storey building with a farmyard on its south side. The oldest section is in the east and is reinforced on the outside with buttresses. A buttress is a support built onto the exterior of a wall. There are arcades on both the ground and upper floors; they have since been bricked up. Arcades are arched openings, and their infilling is part of the castle’s present-day condition. These different details offer insight into the overall form, individual sections of the building and its layout across two floors.
The fortress in Dražíč was built after 1600 by Jan Svatkovský of Dobrohošť. It adds another building, with its own date and named builder, to the history of the castle and chapels.
Beer Culture and the Pivní stezka
Pivovarský dvůr Lipan is located in Dražíč and was established in 1997 in the complex of a former distillery. The complex’s former use is part of its historical connection to the village. Pivovarský dvůr Lipan brews unfiltered, live, typically Czech beer with a fuller body and unique taste; product characteristics may change. Guided brewery tours with beer tastings are available. If you want to make a tour a firm part of your plans, check availability in advance. The former distillery complex and the brewing combine architectural history and culinary interest at this site.
The Pivní stezka – Route 2 is 34 km long and runs from Zvíkovské Podhradí along the Vltava to Dražíč. Its length and route distinguish it from the individual buildings and make it a separate focus for travel planning. As route conditions may change, it is advisable to check the latest information before planning your trip.
