Ponds, birdlife and historical traces shape the character of Nákří. These themes provide useful guidance when choosing a hotel in Nákří: the two ponds differ in size and suitability for swimming, while the islands in Velké Nákří are home to a distinctive bird population. Other highlights include a stone viewpoint overlooking Šumava, a monument in the nearby area that is accessible year-round, and the history of an old country road. You can choose whether to focus your stay on nature, views or local history.

Ponds and Birdlife

The Velké Nákří pond covers 42.49 ha and is less suitable for swimming. An island in the pond is home to the only breeding site of the Eurasian spoonbill in the Czech Republic. Spoonbills have nested there regularly since 1991; in recent years, there have been three to four pairs. The artificial islands in the pond also provide a habitat for birds. Many greylag geese and other waterbirds currently nest there.

Common and very rare waterbirds and marsh birds can be found around Blatec and at other ornithological sites, including Nákří. For nature enthusiasts, this means two distinct highlights: the spoonbill’s special breeding site and the diversity of waterbirds and marsh birds at several locations.

The two ponds also differ in terms of swimming. Velký Luský covers 26.00 ha and is suitable for swimming on the side locally known as “by the church.” While Velké Nákří is less suitable for this, Velký Luský is considered suitable for swimming on the specified side. So the comparison depends not only on area, but also on the stated swimming suitability of each pond.

Views and Nearby Destinations

A stone viewpoint built in 2011 stands on the path to Loma. From there, the view takes in Nákří and the surrounding area, including Šumava. The viewpoint thus adds a distinct perspective on the village and its surroundings to the pond landscape.

The Jakub Kubata Monument is outside the village but in the nearby area of Nákří. It is accessible year-round and can be reached via a green-marked hiking trail from Zliv towards Zbudov. The route is suitable for pedestrians and cyclists. When planning your visit, you can distinguish this destination from Nákří itself: it is nearby and accessible via the specified trail.

Local History and Traditions

The entire complex of the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Nákří is a protected monument. The former transport route through the village is also part of Nákří’s history: an old country road once led from České Budějovice via Zaháj onwards to Protivín and Písek. The sequence of places mentioned reflects the historical route.

Another connection to local life is the traditional municipal fishing competition at the Čekánek village pond in Nákří. The competition is for the Nákeřský kapr and the ČEZ fish. Along with the history of the country road and the protected church complex, this tradition offers a different insight into the village from the natural attractions around the ponds.
