Budislav offers several specific points of interest when planning a stay: a church with a documented building history, a château on the site of a former fortress, ponds and forests, and a volunteer forest railway project. If you would like to combine local history and landscape in one destination, you can explore these themes side by side in Budislav without centring your stay on a single attraction.

Landscape, high point and ponds

At 560 metres above sea level, Budislavská hora is the highest point within the cadastral area of Budislav. This locates the summit within the municipality; it does not describe a particular view or route to get there. The water features also give the area its own distinctive landscape: Zámecký rybník has an island and is fed by the Černovický potok. The stream flows through Budislav.

The ponds and forests around Budislav are rich in mushrooms and blueberries. Alongside the buildings, these natural attractions are another point of interest to consider when choosing where to stay. The landscape can be seen as a focus in its own right, while the church, château and historical traces reveal another side of the area.

The church and traces of local history

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was renovated in 1741 by Count Jan Václav Caretto von Millesimo, and a new church tower was built at that time. It is listed in the central register of immovable cultural monuments. Inside are ten tombstones with inscriptions that are now illegible. Together, the renovation, tower and tombstones offer different points of reference for the church’s history, although the inscriptions can no longer be read today.

Budislav Château stands on the site of a former vladycká tvrz, which was remodelled in 1754. This connection with the former fortified noble residence gives the château a historical context distinct from the church’s later renovation. If you are interested in the area’s history, these two buildings therefore offer two different points of entry: the church’s development in the 18th century and the earlier history of the château site.

Another historical trace can be found below the pond dam, very close to the château. A mill already stood there in the 1670s. Today, only a massive corner of the wall remains to recall the mill building. As the condition of the remains and access arrangements may change, check both before visiting.

The Budislavská narrow-gauge railway

The Budislavská narrow-gauge railway, a volunteer forest railway project, is located in the woods near Budislav in the Tábor District. Its track gauge is 450 millimetres; as a technical measurement, the track gauge is the distance between the rails. This makes it possible to consider the project as an attraction in its own right, even if you do not take a ride: it combines its woodland location with a clearly defined technical feature.

The project occasionally holds public events at which rides are available. These events should not be taken as a regular timetable. If an event or a ride is important to your visit, check the event dates before travelling. This keeps your plans aligned with the dates actually scheduled, rather than assuming that a ride is available on every day of your visit.

Walks and getting your bearings

There are many opportunities for walks from Budislav in the direction of Červená Lhota Château. This indicates a direction for walks, not a specific duration or route length.

Road II/135 is also a useful reference point for getting your bearings: it runs through Bechyně, Soběslav, Tučapy, Budislav and Kamenice nad Lipou. The places named indicate where Budislav lies along this road; no distances or journey times are specified. When choosing a destination for your stay, you can therefore consider different questions separately: whether you are more interested in local architectural history, the forests and ponds, the forest railway project, or walks in the direction of Červená Lhota.
