Podolí can be viewed through two different travel interests: as a stop on a signposted circular cycling route and as a place with a layered history. When planning a stay, the Vítězství u Mladé Vožice route, Podolský rybník and the town’s historical connections offer concrete points of reference. This can help you decide whether to focus your trip on cycling, local sights or the town’s history.

Vítězství u Mladé Vožice cycling route

The Vítězství u Mladé Vožice cycling route is a signposted circular route 60 km long. In Podolí, it connects to the Stříbrná osmička nature trail. The route follows roads, cycle paths and forest tracks. Spring, summer and autumn are recommended as the best times to visit. If you plan to include the tour in your trip, use this information to prepare and check the route before setting out, as route details may change. The distance and circular format define the scope of the ride; the types of paths and recommended seasons provide specific points to consider when planning.

Historic settlement and crossing

The original historic development of Podolí lies north of road II/137 and around Podolský rybník. The Podolský potok flows into this pond. A footbridge crosses the stream; before that, a stone bridge stood here. Check the current condition of the crossing before visiting. The pond is a point of reference for the historic settlement, while the footbridge is a specific crossing over the stream.

Mill and sawmill

The mill site, also known as Kadeřávkův mlýn, was in Podolí No. 8 below Podolský rybník, alongside a sawmill. Three overshot waterwheels powered the mill and sawmill. After the war, the mill resumed operations on 1 June 1947; operations ceased on 1 February 1951 because the miller was ill. This gives the history of milling a concrete technical and chronological context.

Chapel and earlier local history

Kaplička Podolí is a local sight in the Ratibořské Hory area and its surroundings. Podolí was formerly an independent estate and is considered the cradle of the Čáslav family of Podolí. In 1526, King Ludvík Jagellonský granted the brothers Měděnec of Ratibořice and Podolí the right to mine, prospect and grant mining rights within a radius of half a mile around Ratibořice. These historical connections have different scopes: the former estate status and family history relate to Podolí, whereas the mining rights specify a precisely defined area around Ratibořice.

Planning priorities for your trip

You can weigh these themes separately when planning your trip: the 60 km loop offers a specific focus for cycling, while Kaplička, the history of milling and the town’s earlier historical connections offer a look at the past. This lets you choose your stay based on what you actually want to do or learn about.
