Podesdorf can be viewed from two perspectives: as a destination for nature-based activities and as a point of reference for architectural history in Slavkov and Svéraz. The municipality of Bohdalovice has cycling routes, terrain suitable for cross-country skiing in winter, and forests rich in mushrooms and wild berries. There are also precisely dated details about the fortress and churches. When planning your stay, you can therefore distinguish between seasonal activities and historic architectural styles.

Podesdorf and the Travel Region

Bohdalovice lies 8 km southwest of Český Krumlov and is part of the Český Krumlov Region tourism area. The distance and the region affiliation provide different points of reference: the first indicates the direction and distance from Český Krumlov, while the second places Bohdalovice within a broader tourism framework.

Cycling Routes, Winter, and Forests

Numerous cycling routes cross the municipality of Bohdalovice. In winter, the terrain there is suitable for cross-country skiing; cross-country skiing is therefore the explicitly seasonal activity. The forests around Bohdalovice are rich in mushrooms and wild berries. These three aspects have different emphases: cycling, a winter activity, and the forest landscape. If cross-country skiing is important to your trip, winter becomes the focus as a time to visit. Cycling routes and forests complement this perspective with other nature and outdoor activity themes.

Architectural History in Slavkov and Svéraz

At Slavkov Fortress, two entrances to the stone tower should be distinguished. The original entrance is on the first floor and leads through a pointed-arch portal; the current entrance was added later. The portal therefore belongs to the original entrance, not the one added later. The fortress palace also combines different building phases: it is a Renaissance building and incorporates part of the original Gothic fortification wall in its masonry. The fortress thus offers evidence of both the Renaissance and older Gothic fabric.

The Church of St. Bartholomew in Slavkov was built in 1311 and consecrated in 1313. These dates mark two different steps: construction and consecration. The church was enlarged in 1800–1801; the nave was added during this renovation. Its architectural history thus spans its medieval founding and a later extension that added to its floor plan.

Two dates are also important for the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Svéraz. The church is mentioned in records from 1358. However, the present building was created through a Baroque renovation in 1774–1775, during which the older building was demolished. The 1358 date therefore marks the entry in the records, while 1774–1775 dates the creation of the present church. This distinction helps separate the history of the church site from the history of the building described today.

Highlights for Your Trip

When planning your trip, you can consider seasonal nature activities and the dated architectural history as separate interests. Cycling routes, terrain for cross-country skiing in winter, and forest fruits represent different ways to enjoy nature; the fortress and churches offer specific building phases and historical dates.
